If you cannot remove the bottom half of the faceplate it is either a very old BT instalation or an extension socket. Are you sure their are no more phone sockets in the flat.i have one phone socket, not like ur pic though. mine has the bit you plug phone into in the middle.
Can you follow the BT line into your property to this socket?0 -
Hi Mandy,
It's sounds to me like you do have a persistent fault with your BT broadband. Just because the voice part of the line works, it does not mean that the broadband will.
If you trust your next door neighbour, or a friend you can call, do the following:
1. Disconnect EVERYTHING from the phone line, including the telephone and router.
2. Ask a friend/neighbour to go to https://www.bt.com
3. scroll down the main page, on the left below a sub-heading of "At Home", the 3 link from the bottom says "Report a fault", select it.
4. The next page is fairly straightforward, simply click on "check my line now" and follow the instructions (you will need your landline phone number).
The above will confirm if there's anything wrong with your phone line, you can then go on to diagnose further (via the BT website). If you have a genuine fault with your line, BT will come out for free and fix it as they are legally required to.
Generally it's not likely that your socket or cabling has failed - unless you have something called a DAX unit, although I'm certain you won't have one. Of course if you have any pets, there is a good chance cables can get damaged, but as you haven't mentioned this I'm going to assume you have none.
To share your phone with your laptop, you will typically need a cable firstly, to connect your phone to your laptop. To be honest, I could be writing all day how to do it, so I would strongly advise you visit your local vodafone shop and ask them for help, they will easily be able to help you and they won't even charge you. of course it would be convenient if you took your laptop, but that may be a pain. Alternatively there should be something relating to it on the vodafone website. The method slightly differs with phone manufacture, Nokia are quite easy, HTC are relatively easy, etc.

it looks like an old installation, there def isnt any other ones.
i disconnected everything from hub last night. thought id try this morning and it seemed fine. no apparent reason why just went back to being ok.
do you think the hub could have just got itself in a tiss?bsc 347:j0 -

Hmm, I'm sure I answer this already. I'll be brief this time, I'm glad you got it back! It's likely it's BT's fault, don't forget that every time your contract runs out, you may be able to get a new BT Hub. Perhaps keep it for spare, but when your child is away from the internet or asleep, get it configured and ready for use just in case.If someone is worth thanking - click on the 'Thanks' button on their response.
