To add insult to injury all the prices for memebership are much less and come with 'immediate cover'. And there is an offer of 40% off.

But those rates are for people that take out cover before they need the service, not those like you that seek cover after the event.

Just get over it, they told you how much it would cost, they provided the service, you now have cover for the next 12 months.

Next year shop around and get cover before your car breaks down.

I broke down in a car park at about 5pm. Near to Cheltenham.

No terms were provided and I thought that whenever you take out an agreement or service you should be advised of terms especially in regards to cancelation. I couldn't find out what I had signed up for until I got home.

I am not sure why I was forced to take out a full membership just to get stated. Wouldn't have minded if I'd paid about £60 for the callout but feel I have been signed up to something that wasn't what I expected.

It all feels a bit wrong and had I been able to make an informed descision I probably wouldn't have agreed.

    you used the service
    how would you cancel?
the informed decision comes through having a choice.you had plenty

lets flip it round.why didnt you have breakdown cover?

Had I been able to phone a garage and they came out and gave me a push I am sure they wouldn't have charged me £130.

You don't get it at all!

    1) They didn't charge you £140 to give you a push! That was their offer to you as a non member to come to you immediately, deal with your problem and cover you for the next 12 months.

    2) You accepted their offer of your own freewill!

You couldn't find many insurance companies prepared to cover you after the event! Try getting cover for your house burning down after your kids have been playing with matches and succeeded!

Unbelievable another person wanting something for nothing. :rotfl::rotfl:

By the way you weren't offered any options because in your predicament they will have charged you the minimum.

When I got home I looked on the internet to check terms etc. It says you can get a full refund "minus and assistance". It then says (only in the PDF) that the minimum assistance fee is £130. None of this mentioned on the phone
Why should they? You chose to join up. If you'd have said no thanks, they'd have said recovery was £130 if you were interested but as that £130 would only deal with that event and £140 gets you that covered AND a years membership, only a moron would accept the £130 deal.

Added to this it stated that you can only have 5 callouts per year so basically £30 per callout. I could have got the same service with the £30 membership so feel I wasn't given an informed descision. Admittedly I was on my own and in a blind panic.
Thats because you can only get it if you join BEFORE you break down. You were given the correct answer.
Considdering that I only did this last night and all I got was a 'bump start' do you think I should ask for a refund? I don't think I was given all the information and I haven't recieved any paperwork.

    Thanks in advance.

By all means ask for a refund. They'll send it along with a bill for £130 for the callout.

You could have said no and paid the £130 or spent hours phoning round trying to find someone to come out and only saved £30.

There is no £60 callout fee for non-members.

Yes, thats correct. Thats the advantage you get of taking out cover before you're in need of their service.

Hello. I hope someone can give me some advice before I call and/or complain.

I broke down yesterday and had no option but to call someone to help me. I decided that I would call the AA and see if they can help get me going.

When I called I got through to someone who sold me AA membership for £140. He didn't sound too happy to be working and gave little information.

I was not provided any alternatives even though I said it was a bit pricy. No 'terms' were mentioned, fees, or cancelations. I felt I had no option but to pay for 'membership' in order to get some assistance.

Anyway, 1 hour later the AA turned up and gave my car a push to get it started. That was it. Car still not fixed but at least I got home.

When I got home I looked on the internet to check terms etc. It says you can get a full refund "minus and assistance". It then says (only in the PDF) that the minimum assistance fee is £130. None of this mentioned on the phone.

I really like your style. I am now going to drive around with no insurance and then give Elephant a ring after i've had an accident.

Not "usually" at all included as part of "fully comp". (RAC/Green Flag/AA etc wouldn't have many members were you correct)

    In fact it's most unusual!
