  • I will always live by the rule eat less and exercise. I was 14 stone before my diet and I'm now 9st 11. A lot of my mates that went to slimming world etc but that's them and I know lots of people diet classes like that have helped. The only way to really do it though is exercise. I've just put a new picture of me post diet on my homepage if you would like to look :)

Paul McKenna is my man for weight loss. I spent about £6 on his book and CD and lost a stone in the first month. You need to re educate your mind to recognise when your body is actually hungry for food. There's nothing really that clever or new age about it, eat when u are truly hungry, but not ravenous, eat slowly, enjoy everything u eat, and most importantly, STOP when u are full. This, combined with moving as much as u reasonably can will result in a good weight loss and a healthier attitude to food and eating. No calorie counting, no point counting. Eat whatever u want, but only when you're hungry.

i would also recommend slimming world, particularly if you can get to a group but if not the magazine is once a month or so and has lots of info about the diet plan
    good luck

thank you all for your kind words and all your tips. HLC youve done amazingly well the before/after photos are like 2 different people!!

Small steps today just like walking more, smaller portions at dinner and Ive stopped eating after 7pm - just water between now and bed (this is probably my biggest issue as I was always used to working late and eating late) I bought yogurts to snack on instead of cakes and have thrown the cakes out tonight :) Will be heading to the gym tomorrow and a free swim session afterwards and will do this as often as the bank balance allows me - have also decided when the good weather is back to get the bike repaired and starting cycling like I used to - I know this will hurt my knee like hell at the start but Im also hoping that with the right treatment alongside my exercise my injuries wont effect me too much :) just cant wait to get started :)

I have done Slimming World with my husband and that worked really well cos he loves to cook and mess with food. If you aren't that sort then i would suggest EXANTE. I have done that too and because I am an all or nothing person it went really, really well for me.

hi annie - I *should* be ok on the bike, I definately wont be up for my 20k cycles as i used to but aiming to start very small, even just around the area I live (maybe 0.5 miles in a circle) so if i need to stop Im right beside the house. Just confirmed with the doctor last week could i cycle again and his advice was yes but build myself up to longer cycles, maybe increae by 5 mins everyday - fingers crossed its ok!

Wow Happylittlecomper you're weight loss is amazing! Such an inspiration.

I'm 21 myself and like OP i'm around 15 stone and desperate to lose weight. I used to be 9.5 stone in my late teens, but in the last year have had a lot of family problems that have caused me to comfort eat and gain a lot of weight. Now i'm feeling much happier though and ready to get back in shape. So fed up of having to keep buying bigger sized clothes and feeling really fat lol. My friend is a little heavier than me and she has lost over 2 stones since Summer on Slimming World.

Inspired by how well she's doing, i'm in two minds whether to join too. Being a student, money is really tight as I don't work. I also have a wii fit and exercise bike at home, so i'm more encouraged to do it on my own and save my money, as it would also be more convenient for me given my study commitments. I'm basically hoping that cutting out takeaways, exercising more, drinking diluting juice instead of fizzy and eating 'healthy' snacks will help me to drop some weight. I would love to get back down to around 10 stone :)

Reading this thread and seeing Happylittlecomper's amazing weight loss has really inspired me to get serious about losing weight and it's nice to know that i'm not alone, as I felt like I was the only person 'my age' to be in this position.

hey fizzle - hope you get back to the size you want! Ive struggled a bit today, just having to break habbit of eating oily food, but on the plus side I slowed down on chewing and managed to leave 1/3 on the plate, beforehand I would have kept eating until the plate was clean! Also managed not to eat after 7 lastnight which was great - just need to wean off the coca cola now cos I am actually addicted! The doctor has even tried to help me stop and my family but I used to drink about 4 litres a day!! now Im down to about 1 litre a day but as of today Ive cut it out completely - getting withdrawl symptoms already though!
