Hi all - I've been meaning to list some stuff on Ebay for ages now (I'm a bit of a hoarder!) but the thing that puts me off is not knowing how much to put for postage. So far I've only really sold things that are pick up or will post in an envelope (ie tickets).

I found a bit on the Royal Mail website that tells you the cost for stamped mail by weight - is this usually accurate? I am guessing that size doesn't matter unless a letter?

Also do people generally send stuff by 1st or 2nd class?

    Thanks :)

Use the Royal Mail price finder here http://sg.royalmail.com/portal/rm/PriceFinder?catId=23500532&gear=pricingcalc&campaignid=pricefinder_redirect

Make sure you weigh your item and allow a bit extra for packaging too, type in your weight, choose your size format (letter, large letter or packet - see the guidelines as this does make a difference)

I post everything second class - others use first or recorded. You can offer three options on each sale so a combination of those is good and then your buyer gets to choose which suits them

TMD that sucks hope they have sorted it.

I am fed up with Ebay at the moment, they have limited the amount I can sell on my business account as I sell too many things the same apparently. Shocking really on a business account!!

im having the same problem, ive been banned from listing a particular brand of clothing for 30 days, with no option to resolve the situation sooner, how the hell are you supposed to make a living if this is how they treat business sellers.

ive come back to ebay after some time away only to find their shoot first ask questions later policies are more rediculous than ever.

It doesn't make any sense for them to restrict a particular brand or item because they will loose your money from the sales you cannot make, unless the brand itself is making them restrict it. Are they giving reasons?

  • Could someone tell me whether there is a time restriction before you can relist things or can you do it straight away after an auction has ended?

    thanks

  • Hi All

I nwould love to join this challange - a little late I know but it is just the motivation I need to de- clutter my house. I can't wait to get started I will be aiming to list 10 items a week - I work full time, and I'm not enjoying the best of health and do not have a lot of spare time - but any thing I an get rid of and if I managed to get a little extra cash from it (towards xmas 2011) that would be fantastic.

keep up the good work everyone

Spent all yesterday evening photographing items for listing. Only managed to get one on today but sold another item of clothing for £2 and will list the rest of the stuff in the week. DH is listing things too only his are quite big ticket - electronics etc so my 99p lots seem negligible next to his. Oh well, it all helps :-)

My 5 items all got at least 2 bids in the end! Not mega money at all but I'm pleased, 2 things out of my Soap and Glory tote I won't use, some money off vouchers, someone my husband bought and doesn't have a use for now and a something from my gifts box I'm not sure who to give it too. Have two of the last item so done a 2nd chance offer on that too.

3 of the 5 paid instantly and the other really quickly and I'd partially packaged things this afternoon so it was nice and easy tonight.

Listed 7 more things - was going to do another 5 but 5 of these are badges so really small and easy to list so did 7 and have more lined up too but I need to limit the amount I'm having to package up and post each week as it's a 10 minute walk from my office to the post office at lunchtime!

Also sold a book on Amazon, first time for ages as I haven't been listing for a while and then some bits on another forum so got quite a bit to take to the post office tomorrow,

Sold 2 books through work last week, not sure if I posted £1 for a paperback and then £7 for something I got 2 of for Christmas, one came from Amazon and this is the price on Amazon so I thought it was fair to sell it for that.

Will work out my January total and post soon.

  • Yeaaaa, sold my old broken touch screen phone- listed it at a start bid of 0.99 last night and within 2 hours had 5 emails asking a BIN price!! :j
Managed to sell in the end for £45...they were going for about £55 in auctions but I thought that the guaranteed cash was better and seeing as I had lots of questions, it would probably be like that all week and drive me mad in the end!!!
taking my total up to £109, had to buy some mailing items etc and treated myself to a DVD but I have a few more items listed so hoping to finish this week on about £130 ish which is a great start for Jan.....:T

Good luck to everyone else, this thread really does work and keeps me motivated, still holding out for free listing weekend as some big items to list which I can't justify on normal weeks!!!!

I had this restriction a few weeks back, i was listing some Clarens items (cosmetics) and if i remember correctly ebay said something about restricting because i hadn't sold that type of items before, so limited me to 5 items for 30 days, i think it also said something about when id recieved feedback for the items i could list more.

Although i was a bit miffed it didnt upset my selling because these items were one offs, they were just bits i had laying around that i thought i would try.
