    I have read the entire thread and I am so grateful for the hints, tips and inspiration I have received - thanks everyone!

    I try and list 10 items a week which is at the top end of what I can cope with time and energy-wise and it is really making a big difference to my income. It is great fun too!

    Hi all

    One of my (few) buyers has emailed me to say that the two clothing items (lightly used bras!!) she bought are too small and don't fit her.

    I suspect that she hasn't worn that brand of clothing before. My opinion is that they are/were a true fit.

    Suggestions pls :)

    Do you accept returns?

    I'd probably say: I'm sorry i'm not a business and therefore don't ususally accept returns. However on this occassion if you would like to return the items back to me i will provide you with a refund. As i feel the item was listed accurately i could only refund the winning bid price and not the cost of postage.

    I think that is fair response, you are actually giving her an option to return the item & for a 99p item etc would put people off returning the item. Why should you end up out of pocket?

    Bras is such a funny area, i can be different sizes in the same shop, i couldnt buy them from ebay, surely you have be be aware of this if you do.

    Listerbelle - you can offer a refund on return of item. I think you will find that a full refund would be better in this case. Yes you are not a shop but if you returned an item to a shop,even a charity shop you would expect a full refund and the buyer as you suspect may not have worn this brand before and bras are odd things to fit! As the buyer will have to pay her own return postage and Eb*y state clearly that this should be done by traceable means, then you will probably find she wont bother because she will be out of pocket. Dont forget, once returned and item refunded you can get your Eb*y fees refunded too. Unfortunately buyers tend to have the upper hand on Eb*y :( HTH

    Unsure as to why you think the buyer should get their postage costs refunded too? The postage is the charge for getting the item to the buyer, and the buyer clearly has the item. The post office are not going to turn around a provide a postage refund.

    That's like me going into next buying a top in the wrong size and expecting next to reimburse me the cost of petrol driving to the shop in the first place.

    Listerbelle has listed the item accurately, it isn't her fault the item doesn't fit the buyer, why should she be out of pocket for the cost of the postage?

    By offering to refund Listerbelle would be giving the buyer the option to return the item (it doesn't sound like returns are offered as standard) so is trying to be accomodating and recongising that bras vary considerably on sizing. It could be the case the buyer has not ever had her boobs properly measured so could have bought the wrong size in the first place.

    When i've encountered a problem similar to this, this is my approach and i've never had a buyer than considers this unreasonable or has left me negative feedback because of it. Some buyers have choosen to return the item, others have not, one woman even messaged me back & told me not to worry as her daughter loved the top.

    I know this is MSE but if i bought an item from a charity shop and it turned out not to fit i wouldn't return it, it simply feels cheeky and wrong. I'd sell it on ebay myself (to recoup some of the money) or just donate the item back to charity. What's a few extra pounds donated to charity.

    Listerbelle would not be out of pocket only buyer would so buyer will probably not send back. If she does Listerbelle has item to sell again and if it does sell any listing fees would be refunded if she listed item as a relist

    I have had same experience and have also had my DSRs trashed and account restricted due to the actions of one buyer whom I bent over backwards to accommodate. With this experience in mind I do not routinely offer returns but if any problems arise I am happy to receive item back then give full refund, even when buyer asks for partial refund. On the one occasion a buyer raised a dispute Eb*y found in my favour ( a rare occurrence from what I have read on the Eb*y boards!). When buyers appear to hold all the cards it pays to be accommodating yet unyeilding ;)

    Just used the analogy as the item in question is a used/second hand item :D I have taken things back to charity shop due to damage and I have never had a problem in fact the opposite they have always been very apologetic unlike some High St chains selling new! And for the record I have always made sure I have bought something else:)

    I have recently sold something on ebay, the buyer is unhappy with the product and my description, in fact I received a very curt email form the buyer about it, threatening to report me to ebay.

    So I sent a very polite email back saying return item to me for a full refund and postage costs, upon receipt of item.

    Am waiting to hear from the buyer now.

    I made sure my email was all above board and polite, and offering a fair response.
