Not so sure about that, the very same female must have driven for 15 miles with a red warning light fully on, in front of her.
Worrying....;)0 -
The brakes will be fine. If they weren't on fire, or dripping brake fluid out they're not going to start now.

I did this in my Triumph Vitesse years ago. Only noticed when I pressed the pedal and it hit the floor. Stopped for half an hour and then carried on when the fluid was cool. Would have changed it but I sold it within a week.
If this happened your brake fluid was well past it's change by date . It boiled because it was so old it had absorbed a lot of moisture from the air
and the water changed to steam . Brake fluid in usable condition will not boil no matter how much it is heated from the brakes. This is something to watch if you drive through mountainous roads abroad. The high altitude means the water in the brake fluid boils at a lower temperature and if on the downhills you are using the brakes and not the engine/gearbox :AYou scullion! You rampallian! Well you may have driven for 15 miles with the handbrake and brake warning light on, I certainly have not.

If she didn't know the handbrake was on, it obviously wasn't on that much. Bear in mind that correctly adjusted rear brake shoes should rub the drum anyway, to the extent that you can spin the rear wheels when the car is on a a ramp/jacked up and they stop quickly, yet aren't "binding on" and are not hard to move in the first place.
I'd say you have nothing to worry about here, especially given that the shoes are new anyway. Would the brake fluid have boiled up? I doubt it,as there's a lot more natural braking put through the front brakes which has no adverse effect on the brake fluid. If your daughter didn't notice the handbrake was enguaged, it obviously wasn't enguaged a great deal.0 -

That would be the handbrake warning light, that stays on when the handbrake is on. Almost back to the day's of women pulling out the choke and hanging their handbag on it.
So you met my mum!:rotfl:Nobody is perfect, except me of course
Please note: my opinions are mine alone, nobody asked me to have them, obliged me to have them or even coerced me to have them, they are mine but they are free, so if you want to share them I will not charge you for it!

To make a serious point , where do women hang their handbags now that cars do not have pull out chokes any more ?? I ask this in case one should offer me a lift in their car sometime !You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0
