  • Well i've made a small start since this morining :), taken down xmas cards ready to take to supermarket, sorted two drawers in sideboard that were bursting. They are now nearly empty, just goes to show how much rubbish was in there, 2 yrs worth of birthday cards, receipts and used tea lights what was I thinking :o Also charging a mobile ready to check and put on e-bay.

Also was wondering how long are you supposed to keep bank statements and wage slips for, before I tackle the filing?

keep the p45/p60s (always get them miixed up!) as recent tax over charging/undercharging, but bin weekly monthly wage slips over 3 or 6 months (id go for 3 months).

    :j
how about keeping the bigger pieces and turning them into wrapping paper (seen someone else mention this somewhere on mse)... then she will not mind it 'being thrown out' and you wont feel guilty for it either :)

I also want one of those homes where it doesnt matter if someone turns up unannounced, whereas now that would send me into a blind panic lol :D

I totally need to join this thread for exactly this reason. My MIL has one of those homes and i strive to get near it.

We did some tidying before Xmas and so far we have kept it looking clear (esp the hall) but it could so easily slip back into a dumping ground.

I'm going to try the 100 things in 10 days and hopefully get rid of some things on ebay.

I have joined this thread so many times..... but I will now let certain people in my house. I have some friends who have never set foot in it. Today I took a boot load of recycling away. I've also sorted another few bags to go to the charity shop tomorrow. I'm also secretly recycling my DS's video collection. He never watches videos but he doesn't want to part with them grrr

I have so much stuff to ebay and it's things that would make money. When do you think Ebay will pick up again as I doubt people have much money to spend at the moment!?

I would like enough money for a skip as whilst the house is improving the garden looks like steptoes yard.

Have made a start on the study. Done some filing and shredding and sorted out a system for my incoming mail.

Am part way through decluttering my computers- this will take days if not weeks overall! Am currently backing up computer and laptop before I wipe them and start from scratch. Next week I'll do a backup of work stuff. Then the whole lot needs reorganising centrally so I can find what I need when I need it rather than searching round on the different computers. Work stuff done at home needs to be copied to work when I do it and then wiped at home! Computer will have music and photos on it. Laptop for finances, personal files etc. I need to get this sorted and a system in place as it is driving me mad!

  • Seeing as I'm starting 2011 afresh with almost everything, I'm going to join you on this thread. My house isn't really that cluttered but it can get a little unbearable when the kids have all their toys out.

    My plans are:

Go through each room and bag up as much as possible that we don't need or use
Clothes will either be given to my daughters nursery for spares, donated to women's aid or sold depending on their state, obviously the nursery will get the tattier ones for spares.
Toys will either be binned, donated to women's aid or sold again depending on their state.
    Create a working filing system

I would just like a tidier house and to be able to find something I'm looking for...not much to ask for ;)
:j Here's to 2013, may it bring Happiness to all :j

  • well started small, decs are down and sorted, some in bin others back in loft, large china doll that just sat on a shelf gathering dust has been sent to niece who loves them, have three bags of bits and pieces in porch to be taken to charity shop...but still doesnt look like ive done much lol
  • I'm very excited, as DH has agreed to help me declutter the bookshelves in the spare room, so we can get rid of them (to a charity that collects furniture). However, we are planning to buy an air bed for guests and a small-ish sofa for me (I use the room to escape the football on TV in the living room!!). So decluttering a set of shelves, only to bring in an air bed and a sofa!!!!

While we are in there, the cupboard is full of c**p too, so I might rope him in to sort that out!
Enjoying the power and freedom of letting things go.

I'd like to join this year too.

My house needs a good declutter, though I made a start last year.

I will take it a small step at a time, otherwise i just make things worse.

As others have said, I will make a start on decluttering my Christmas decorations before packing them away fro next year.

Done my craft stashes as well now, tomorrow it will be books I think! If I tackle it one bit at a time I am sure I can get through it all.
Aiming to completely pay off the credit card in 2012!
