o2 data bolt on package & useless 3G coverage?
I am currently contracted to 02 on a 24 month business contract & paying for a data bolt on package a month.
I have been on this contract for a year and a half and over this period have not had any 3G access. One of my questions is does the data package not only supply internet access over 3g but are you also paying for the 2G or edge coverage as well. The 2g access is diabolical and is unusable as well. Are o2 basically charging me for a service they cannot provide knowingly and if so would I be eligible for a refund.
I cannot believe that o2 can sell a business smartphone and contract in an area they know does not provide a suitable network for that type of contract. O2 business support confirmed this problem when challenged over the phone.
Thanks

Seems to have taken you a long time to discover you can't get 3G coverage.
o2 provide the service but do not guarantee it's availability everywhere, no provider does.
If you were mis-sold the product then I think you should have been challenging this a long time ago.0 -
lmao 1 and a half years of no 3g and suddenly enough is enough! hahaha this post tickled me in horrible ways0

Hmm, as usual the smart a*se people have to reply. Another o2 employee!!!!!!!!
Forums never change!
For your information the reason it never bothered me is that most of the time my work takes me to areas with 3g coverage. It was because I added an extra handset & got into an argument over o2 lying about the activation date that I thought enough is enough.0 -
When you say "another o2 employee" are you one? I am not. I am not sure what your complaint is. You seemed to be suggesting that you could not get a signal on 3G but now you are saying you can. What is the problem you are having?0

I am saying that the area I live in, a very large county in the south has no 3G cover what so ever for O2 and I am guessing Tesco mobile as they share the same network. I think it's unbelievable that o2 can get away with this type of coverage and sell a product to you at the same time knowing that even the rudimentary basic data package doesn't work, let alone 3G.
If this is the case am I within my writes to challenge O2 on there charging me for the lousy coverage. Why would I buy a smartphone if I had know how bad the o2 coverage was!
Believe me, if I was an o2 employee I would not of had the conversation I had today with the business support group about promising an activation date on the 28th of December for a phone bought on the 23rd, only to be told today it won't be activated to till the 4th of January. O2 are not performing as I feel they should be. If I could leave and cancel both handsets I would!
To top it off I bought two smartphones from 3 for my children, activated immediately and they have a 3G signal everywhere. And they have more minute, more texts, more data, better coverage and the handsets were cheaper!!!!! So much for a business deal from o20 -

I thought you stated that you could get 3G coverage in the places you were sent?
No provider guarantees coverage, so writing to them about it would be a waste of time.
As to why you would buy a smartphone if you had know the coverage was so poor then I suggest you didn't do enough/proper research before you bought the phone.
The issue with the disputed activation of a new phone is completely separate and if you were told one date which they now cannot deliver then why not cancel that phone?
I have fallen out with o2 business before and left a contract with them because of their useless customer service so if I was in your position I would not be taking out a second phone with them and moving contract ASAP.
(I know Tesco use the o2 network but what has that got to do with anything?)0 -

Yes, your missing the point. The county I live in does not receive a 3G service.

So you think selling a data package to somebody in an area that can't even get the non 3G signal to work properly at all is good practice? How many people would take it up if they told you actually it's pretty useless where you live but we still recommend you take it! How many smartphones do you think they would sell? I would think these people would be expecting to be able to access the internet on their new smartphone otherwise why bother getting one.

I know that, I was justifying my reason for finally having enough with O2's service.

Already done.
(I know Tesco use the o2 network but what has that got to do with anything?)
I was trying to point out that I don't understand why such a big area with probably a large amount of users doesn't complain about the coverage, do you not think?0 -

O2 don't tailor their products depending on what area you live in other than on a country by country basis. If you cannot get 3G coverage where you live then you shouldn't have taken an internet package.
You're going to have a hard job convincing O2 that you were missold a product since you have been happy to accept it for the last year and a half; any such claim should have been made within a few days/weeks of you taking on the deal.
Might I suggest that in the future you obtain a PAYG sim to test out that a network works to your desired standard before committing to a contract?0 -
I was given an O2 dongle for my work laptop I found it didn't work anywhere at all including central London. I now tether my laptop to my mobile (also O2) which works in most places I need to use it. On the other hand this laptop has built in 3g with a 3 sim and in almost 2 years I have never found anywhere it wont work including fairly remote bits of Scotland and rural areas such as the Lake District. O2 data services are dire you are not alone.0

I have to ask, why on Earth did you add another line if you found the service so poor? And O2 are a business, they will sell what a customer asks them for. It is down to yourself to check these things before you purchase them. A little personal responsibility goes a long way in these situations.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0
