Wow I have a lot of catching up to do with this thread! Just bobbed on to update my sig, since my budget-busting shop on Mon I have spent NOTHING :T until today when I nipped in Home Bargains and spent £1.28 on a bag of sugar and some STs. Quite pleased as usually very tempted to spend in there as it's so cheap... but then I was rushing to made sure I didn't miss my bus home! :rotfl:

Am gonna whisper this after my epic fail with the budget, but my month ends on 24th Jan, a week on Monday, and am hoping that I won't have spent more than £80 total by then... £30 overbudget, on my first try and taking into account the freezer mishap, doesn't seem so bad! :) But we shall see...

Didnt go shopping tonight!!! too tired!!!! woo hoo!!! (though must go soon)

what do you think? got given £2.50 today for a game and me and hubby each had a can of fizzy out of it as a treat (with 60p still left) does that count towards this or not? itd be a NSD otherwise
Frugal living challenge - need to revisit its been.a while !! Need to reduce our debts!!
  • Did a Mr T shop for just over £11, and then the freezer shop for £21.

So i am now at 166.99/190, and wondering if i can do another 2 weeks of shopping (fruit/veg/bread/milk) on the remaining amount. I know we have enough in for next week, so if i buy enough in a weeks time for the remainding days maybe. Will have to only buy cheap things though. Shame the kids really love grapes and the likes, although they will eat all fruit and lots of different veggies so i can't moan.

Another £1.79 spent in Mr S today on sausages - didn't need to go in, so why I did I don't know...they were reduced, but not by much. Going in the freezer anyway.

Going to do chores tomorrow as well I think...fun! :D

A NSD for us today but yesterday spent £21.51 this was on fruit, salad, cheese, eggs, salmon, butter, rice and some reduced pork mince which has been divided and frozen
Am hoping to get back into meal planning next week now we are begining to feel like food again, so will probably make a list over the weekend and start Monday.
We had cottage pie the other day and have finished it off tonight for tea with some veg. DH and DS had salmon and salad.

Plan to make some leek and potato soup tomorrow as have two leeks that will need using soon.

Almost half way into the month but thankfully not yet half way into the budget. :)

Hi folks..I know its a bit late in the day (or should i say month!) to join for January but having well and truly fallen off the OS wagon (cooking wise) and after discovering 6 bottles of bleach (dont ask:o!) under my kitchen sink tonight something has to be done!!

I have 3 kids(10,12,14) who eat like adults and so that makes us a family of 4. In future I aim to spend no more than £40 p/w but need to get this month done with and my new cooker in!

Does anyone have any thoughts on how low one person can go for the month - I'm aiming to get down to about £78 in a few months, so thats about £2.60 per day.

I used to spend around that when I was living on my own. Since I started living with my OH I also started to cook more fancy meals and bigger portions and thus the huge increase lol. I used to have loads of pasta, soup and rice. When I bought meat or fish I used to freeze it in small individual portions so I did not eat the whole thing "just because I do not want to waste it". Also bought some of those tins with chili con carne or things like that, some rice on the side and I was good to go. A tin of tuna and pasta, a left over chicken and a jacket potato, etc.

I would say that since that £2.50 were not in your budget and it was just give to you, I would not count it as a spend. They could have given you the cans of fizzy instead as payment. :j
