  • Hi
I would like to join in but our month goes from 15th to 15th - will that fit ok. Would like to try for £450 for Jan, realise this may look quite alot but would be a real drop for us, we are converting our mortgage to repayment from interest only so our payments will be going up drastically and we need to make some savings. We are 2 adults, 3 children (10,8 and 5).
    Thanks alot

Hello waltzingMathilda! You set your own budget on here, so don't feel bad that you think it's a lot etc. Everyone on here is really fab at giving ideas and support, so feel free to ask questions, even daft ones! You should be able to change little things/habits, and end up making big savings.

have you looked on the mortgage free wannabe threads?
there are loads of ideas of what people are doing about paying/overpaying mortgages that might help you find ways to handle your new payments less painfully.

No spending for me for the last 2 days:D We are doing a detox and stocked up on everything we needed on Friday. I am hoping I might get to Friday before I need to spend again, if I do spend I will only need more fruit, soya milk and wheatfree crackers.

I am really chuffed with myself tonight. I made a gorgeous tomato rice pilaf to stuff my peppers with which I made up as I went along. It will definatley be something I make again:D

Also made some 5 root veg soup for lunches for the next 2 days. Tomorrow I am attempting to cook fresh beetroot for the first time, wish me luck:)

Just reporting in with the weekly spend....
    £50.30 from a £50 budget:mad:

But in my defence I did buy Timotei S & C and deodorant that I don't need yet but they were on better than half price offers and too good a bargain to miss - that added £2.70 to the shopping so the real cost without them would have been £47.60 - within budget - poo!

I have everything we need for the week so hopefully that's it spending wise until next Saturday when there's a new budget.:p
  • Went to the paper shop yesterday and didn't buy a paper or a magazine, but did end up with a chicken and some sausages from the award winning butcher's next door. And some pickle so I could try out a recipe.

Ended up spending £9.29, but including what's in the freezer have meat for over a week. Do have to buy fruit and veg but hopefully not too much for the rest of the week. Siggie updated accordingly

:T Well done you! The first 48 hours are the hardest, and it's important you congratulate yourself with every hour that passes. Each hour is a huge achievement :)

Ordinary chewing gum is good too - cos it keeps your mouth occupied IYKWIM :D It's all about determination, but if you can keep your hands and your mouth occupied, that's half the battle!

    Evening everyone :)

So far spends are £61.75. Went to Aldi and Tesco today to get the fresh stuff I need for the week, plus a couple of offers that are ending today. I have a delivery from Tesco on Tuesday morning, but in true :money: style, I am sharing with my sis and we are paying half each for delivery - prob cheaper than if I had gone and a) used petrol and b) grabbed loads of 'bargains' that arent on my list! Anyway, that'ss be another £50 odd from my budget BUT I have all breakfasts and ingredients for all dinners for the rest of the month in there (except fresh stuff obv!).

Fingers crossed my spending will slow down next week :rotfl:

    Hi Everyone,

Just logging in for the day. Had quite a few NSDs lately, although more than made up for it today at Mr T's .

I'd gotten into the habit of only taking the smaller trolleys so I can't buy as much, although DS hurt his foot today so wanted to sit in one of the seats, so had to get a big one... I half filled it - not good.

I spent £52.70, which is a ridiculous amount considering there are only two of us. I did stock up on a few things though. The Healthy Living chicken breasts are on offer at £1.99 for 500g, which I think is quite a good price - so I bought four! They also have lots of cereals at either half price or BOGOF.

I'm beginning to think that my target of £125 was a bit ambitious, especially as I have started a diet, which means that I have to pass on a lot of the bargains. I also don't think that I realised just how much I was spending! Since starting the challenge I am definitely more aware of my money, which is a good start... so this month isn't a complete disaster, lol.
