Costcutters - More like robbers.

I'm normally very un moneysaving when going into a shop and even if it is 5p cheaper a couple of mins down the road for that bottle of drink or chocolate bar, I'll still buy it, but Costcutters really do take the biscuit.
Even with my pretty relaxed views on food shopping, I simply couldn't part with 72p for a crunchie bar or 90p + for various Dairy Milk branded bars or 65p - 75p for a bag of crisps at the fairly local Costrobbers.
Looking at other items they were extremely high priced, well above the RRP and well above the RRP + say a 10% mark up, yet this outfit has the gall to call themselves Costcutters, a real disgrace to the retail sector in this country.

72p for a Crunchie is outrageous. You probably wouldn't pay that at a motorway service station.0

If it was me I wouldn't go back in anymore, if I felt prices were too high I would just vote with my wallet0

The costcutters down the road from me is the same,79p for a tin of Whiskas cat food as opposed to 65p in the Co-Op.The only thing I get from there is 18 local non battery eggs for £1.58.I certainly don't buy anything else from there unless it's on offer..
They've also stopped allowing you to paying your utilities on your debit card now which was one of the reasons I used Costcutters as they were closer to home but now as I'd have to walk into town anyway, the's no point as I pass the Co-Op to get to the bank.0 -
This was my first time and last time in there. It's about 2 miles from my home, but while waiting for the bus, I fancied something chocolatly. I simply couldn't believe the price of everything I looked at, I had to seriously double take.
I understand some mark up, but their mark up is disgraceful. I swear I wouldn't be surprised if a tin of Whiskas would be 89p or even 99p in this Costrobbers.0 -
to be fair i think that the chocolate is expensive these days.0

I think it depends on the Costcutters, ours often has some really excellent offers with no limit on the amount you buy, unlike some of the bigger retailers. Our Costcutters in Ellon customer service is second to none, they continued with their deliverys all through the snow, delivering on foot when the van couldn't get any further groceries to customers who couldn't make it out to the shop. I have an elderly friend who simply called the shop with her order and when they delivered it she paid for it, she could have paid by card if she didn't have the cash handy. Its customer service like this which keeps it a popular store even when a tesco superstore opened in the area!:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

ours changed from a costcutter to a spar and the prices went up!!"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0

I think they are franchises and just like a pub is supplied by a brewers, whoever runs/rent/owns the shop choose to be branded as a Costcutters store.
The one near where I use to worked, also expensive, but not as bad, regularly had out of date food in it and you had to check everything for the dates. No lie once there was a large bag of maltesers which were at least 6 months past their date.
Dairy and poultry goods were quite often past their use by date as well, which I do believe is illiegal. Also multipack items were blantantly being sold seperately.
I never ever literally complain about anything but I wrote a stinking email to them after wasting quite a bit of money on out of date goods.
It got to the stage where it became know to all staff as Costrobbers and staff would actually say "I'm going down Costrobbers do you want anything"0 -
thing is they are open all hours and serve a purpose...........that being people pop in there for the one off things they need rather than go miles to a supermarket.0

My local costcutter is reasonably priced for chocolate and also just about reasonable for those I have run out of ??? moments - the supermarket is closed or I can't be faffed to trek there. The spar shop though (near a school) and the newsagents in our town charge a fortune for chocolate and I avoid (like the plague) :rotfl:
my costcutter also has very good offers and was the best place to get my brandy this year (best price) as it was last year :beer:0
