I'm a wannabe 3rd degree-er! Got teaching qualification, BA(Hons) and MA so far. I should have been starting my PhD this term but lack of funds and ill health have meant that it's had to go on hold yet again. I see my consultant later today (healthwise) so I've got all my fingers and toes crossed.
Age - mind over matter. I don't mind and it don't matter.
Steps 1 and 2 outof 3 sorted out - supervisor - check, research area - check, funding -
???
I also teach mature students and I know we are very special people:D
You - only you- will have stars that can laugh :rotfl:

I have a question for you maturer students. My mum wants to re-train and get a better job, ideally the degree in Health & Social Care Management after an Access course.
The thing is though, money (isn't it always). If she leaves her job - will she get student funding as any 18 year old going to university would? She has two loans to pay of £300 per month.
She really wants to re-train but the time (she's 46) and money is holding her back.
Any thoughts? No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -

id go to student services and mention that she would like to do course "A" but she would need help with funding, and see what they say,No Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -

She may be able to do a work based degree where she can still work and just attend uni part time. 2 of my friends at Uni are doing a work based social work degree and they are both guaranteed employment after they finish the course as they are already in the jobSam0 -
I can see it is hard as a mature student as you may not have much in common with younger Students.
It can be hard as a Mature student as you can know more than the lecturer. This is what happened to someone I know who is a business teacher and he has a old Cert Ed (teaching Qual) and a PG Professional business qualifications and he went and did a business degree and he knew more than the lecturers, which made the course sort of let down for him.:beer:0 -
