It's the shops that are losing in the long run surely?

I think the problem is we have to buy bread and milk no matter what, in the supermarket I will sometimes buy rolls from in store bakery for a change but kids prefer the sliced bread.

As for the milk............well maybe I need a cow lol

At Farmfoods Hovis bread is 2 loaves for £1 and milk is 2 x 2litres for £1.50. I have a 15 minute each way drive to get to Farmfoods, but I have a small freezer which I keep free to stock up with bread and milk every few weeks, so well worth the trip.

    Hi All,

The Hovis Bread is 2 for £1.25 now as far as I know, however this is still the best price I've seen it for anywhere, it is around about £1.15 for 1 in Tesco!

The Milk is a bargain too, as well as the usual Full Fat and Semi-Skimmed, the offer also includes Wiseman 1% fat milk (purple top bottle) which is often nearer to £1.50 for one in other shops!

I buy bread and milk from Farmfoods myself, but in Liverpool there is also a cash and carry place on Green Lane in Old Swan (public can use it as well as trade, no membership fee) and the advert they have states their milk is also 2 x 2 litre for £1.50 although I've never been in so I cannot confirm this!

    Cheers

We make our own bread and the local shop charges £1.19 for 4 pints - as opposed to S'burys which is £1.55 for 4 pints .

I never buy bread or milk if it costs more than farm foods.

I think milk in the local co-op is £1.10 for 2l, wouldn't have a clue about anywhere else as I just would not buy it.
A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

    I dunno that's pretty impressive!

I think we need a 'who's got the most of what' thread

Can I join in? I stocked up on Calgon from the 99p store (15 tab packs) over 9 years ago and am still not through it. My washing machine is as sparkly as it was when I bought it!

  • sorry i just thaught i would post. i currently have 108 tins of Hienz baked beans (they cost 25/p a tin perfectly normal, best before 2012) this was a offer i took advantage of.
have 8 box's of 25 wash surf, was £3/box, cubard full of biccies for 42p a pack (from morrisons ages ago) uhm i could go on forever, stick me in a bunker with all my stock i could servive a good few month (oh dont forget my tin opener) i take full advantage of food offers. sorry back on topic, i generally opose buying milk and bread, its to expensive unless i go to farmfoods, however the local newsagents sells not so fresh hovies @ £1/load and his milk gone up to 1.25 2ltr from £1 i hate how food prices rise, but proud of my recent baked bean stock
  • I have two local shops who have pricing wars over milk. I currently buy 2 litres of milk for 85p, goes quickly in this house so it's a godsend.

A loaf of best of both is around £1.30.

My corner shop sells milk at £1.10 for 2ltr. I don't know about bread as I make my own. I buy a lot of my milk there...yes, it's £2.00 for 2 x 2ltr down in Tesco but if I only need milk and I go to Tesco I end up spending a lot more than the 20p extra!
    Val.
  • Just to add to the supermarket prices quotes

    At Aldi
    4 pints £1.00
Bread Hovis best of both £1:00

    Beat that
