Bread and Milk prices

I usually shop at local supermarket and get bread 2 for £1.50 and milk 2 X 2lts for £2 so 2 loaves and 4 litres milk for £3.50.

I realised earlier I needed but and forgot supermarket was closing early because of holidays. So went to another conveniance store, bread was £1.65 for a loaf and milk was £1.45. I was so shocked by this I went to another shop up the road and it was £1.56 for bread and £1.50 for 2ltr milk. I ended up getting it as I needed it but made me think about the prices. I know supermarkets can sell cheaper because of the amount they buy but has made me think about it and will make sure I do not run out again.

How much is your bread and milk if not bought in supermarket ?

thanks

  • Bread sliced white standard hovis/kingsmill etc between £1.60-£1.69, Milk £1.59. Live in a village, online order monthly maximum.

Get most of my milk from the milkman as Tesco et al need shooting, the way they treat farmers frankly!

At Farmfoods Hovis bread is 2 loaves for £1 and milk is 2 x 2litres for £1.50. I have a 15 minute each way drive to get to Farmfoods, but I have a small freezer which I keep free to stock up with bread and milk every few weeks, so well worth the trip.

  • White thick sliced loaf is £1.79
    1 Ltr milk £1.01

Milk is local and lovely - bread is also local and crap

The only "English" bread we get is either Hovis (only sold at one shop but never fresh when it comes over) and bread from M&S

Hi. I have a wee Co-Op store where I stay. Until recently, I used to get really nice own brand wholemeal bread for 59p. It was really tasty and always dead fresh.

They have stopped selling it and only do white bread in their own brand.

The cheapest brown bread they sell is 89p but it's a tiny loaf and you need to use double the slices.

It's as if they want us to spend more and more. I am sick looking at Warbutons and Hovis at £1.89.

I don't buy any bread from the Co-Op now - if I am desperate, I just have some cream crackers instead. It's the shops that are losing in the long run surely?
