Do you know anyone who can sew? Or a local dressmaking/ alteration service? It might be possible to adapt clothing to fit better - just off the top of my head, by adding a broad elastic waistband to tights or leggings so they fit to the waistline of the brace, or maybe a drawstring threaded through and tied will help to stop things sliding down??

M&S do childrens thermal leggings.. in pink, grey and white (my girls have them)

How about older girls tights with the extra leg length removed.. the bigger sizes she would need.. say 5-6/7-8 are not really that much bigger in the waist as smaller sizes are meant to cover nappies too.

Could she manage dungarees? They'll go nowhere.

if you have a dressmaking class nearby how about asking about making her some trousers or getting a pattern made that does fit her brace?

G&B drawstring trousers and bottoms would be the answer - you could adapt elasticated ones by putting in your own cord. what about her wearing a vest that you could attach the tights to with something like suspenders? depends how easy she would find that but maybe just one on each side would be enough - or press studs.
    Will keep thinking.

I have seen adult braces in the trendy accesories section of Primark - and if it is a fashion with the teens you can be sure they will do it for kids sooner or later. Might be worth a look if you have one handy.

  • Pinafore dress maybe good for school, as is dosent rely on a waist to hold it up, also I woul try to find someone who can help you modify clothes to fit her or even possbily make them for her so they are a good fit

  • DS has a hip/leg brace at night and its hard to keep pajamas on over it so I can only imagine what its like for a girl in the day! We find elasticated baggy trackpants are good (he is also very skinny and with the splint his age size actually fits him!). I have used velcro dots (got mine in homebase, I think they were about £5 for 20) to hold the trackpants to the splint at the waist and ankles. He wears thermal longjohns underneath to stop the splint touching his skin.
Later next year he will have to wear a full cast for 6 months so I'll take notes from all the advice on this thread!

Would legwarmers be any help? I have no idea if they'd make them in tiny sizes, but it occurred to me because I can't have anything nylon on my feet, and have been using legwarmers for warmth from ankle to thigh (sorry if that's a bit TMI). 'Tis just a thought.;)

Would putting something like a swimsuit over the plastic body make it have more grip for external clothes? Or, you can get those 'body's that you used to get in the 80's in some shops - they fit under the crotch with poppers and can be long sleeved so look like a t-shirt but don't ruck up.
