Help - a challenge.

As some people on here know, my daughter has a severe spinal deformity. She wears a spinal brace like this -

I am really struggling to dress her:( Her old brace was ok, but she got a new one in the summer and it is driving me crazy. It gives her a really artificially high waist so i can't put trousers on her as the crotch to waist length is too short on every pair i've tried. It is also made of a shiny plastic material so tights slide right off it. I pick her up from school most days and her tights are half off:eek: Thankfully her skirt covers her modesty but its not ideal. She tries to pull up her tights herself but can't do it properly.
Leggings do the same as tights, she had 1/2 or 3/4 length ones in the summer which were good but seemed to be much more elastic in the waist, cant find any longer ones for the winter that are the same.

Any ideas much appreciated!

What about women's size footless tights, they may have more space between the waist and crotch for her size, and then she could just wear socks with then?

Also, what about hotpants/shorts over them to help hold them up?

  • Also, about the shiny plastic, would it be worth giving it a light sand to roughen up the srface, surely it wouldn't interfere with its performance, but things may "grip" better?

Sorry, also forgot to say she is tiny! She is 7 on sunday but wears clothes ranging from age 2-3 to 4-5. She is also really skinny, weighs less than 2.5 stone.

Would thermal leggings or cycling leggings be any good? Not sure if the thermal ones would be too warm but thinking they are designed for use with trousers so possibly more elasticated/strong elastication than normal?

  • Well what about braces? If she has them on under her blouse/pinafore no one would see them if she is a bit shy about them.

Shorts have the same problem as trousers unfortunately. Had a lovely pair of smart shorts from M&S for her that fitted the old one perfectly and won't go near the new one.

Can you use some stick on velcro for the tights? Attach to the brace and the tights, you can buy the little dots? (Sorry if I'm way off the mark x)

We have been thinking about that, or maybe glueing some fabric on it?

That sounds ok, do they do kids ones? Would have no idea where to get something like that, if you could point me in the right direction that would be fab:D
