Meant to say those sites were just to show you what the stuff looked like - I'm not suggesting you buy from them because I didn't check their prices - shop about because some places are really expensive.

Where do you start with them? What do you need to buy? New to crafting, and I would like to make fancier labels for my makes :)

im new to all this stuff as well, planning on going to the stitch and craft show this year at olympia, hoping they have die cutting machines there that i can look at and see how they work, need to save all my pennies as i reckon it will be an expensive day out

Just got back from Hobby Craft, puffy stickers and all ribbon down to 29p - I have a lot of stuff for less than a fiver, very chuffed. Although they did once again try and over charge me, is it just me or do the staff in that shop ALWAYS get at least one price wrong and never in the customers favour??

Have just got back from IKEA - in the 'Bargain' section (which is located near the tills and store exit) they have ex-display and damaged items at hugely reduced prices. They had lots of fabrics and off-cuts in a big bin at the Southampton store.... might come in handy for your makes. Some of the bits were almost single sheet size!!! Nothing was priced, but staff running that area said approx £1 a piece, just ask him for a price sticker (and be prepared to negotiate hard!).

    HTH someone :)

Does anyone have an easy (and cheap) recipe for candle making?

I was thinking about buying the wicks and just melting tea light candles ? Will this work? I was also thinking of adding some essential oils to the mix but not 100% sure which ones yet

The finished result will be pretty teacups filled with the handmade candle

    Thanks

I think thats the basis. Kirsty did it on CH4 I also heard that you can use old crayons to colour them, and add essential oils for nice scents. they are nice in teacups as gifts. :)

The easiest way to describe how die-cutting machines like the cuttlebug work is you use plastic plates and you sandwich your card inbetween these and run it through the machine - it works like an old fashioned mangle. (or a pasta maker). The only real difference is the size of the machine, some of the new ones let you use up to A4 size through them, or you can get electric ones that you don't have to wind yourself. There are other more expensive ones like the Craftrobo that look like printers but they print and cut at the same time - but these don't emboss. Hope I've not confused you with all this - if you want anymore help give me a shout.

  • well the cheap curtains I ordered have arrived so I can get started on the crayon rolls and bags for my nieces. They'll easily be made out of the one curtain with fabric leftover - not bad for £3!
