  • Hi

New here :). I am now totally immersed in making christmas presents etc - mostly crocheted, but I need some advice on where on t'internet to get cheap embellishments? I've got more or less all the wool I need but its ribbon and buttons that I could do with. Thanks in advance for recommendations!
  • Lunacat The Range sell very reasonable packs of buttons and ribbon if you have one near you or Boundary Mill. Not sure if you can buy from either of those online though x x

I bought one from Fred Aldous once and seem to remember successfully making candles with it, but I can't tell you how it compares to other kits because it's the only one I've ever used. Why don't you have a look on fleabay and see if anyone is selling theirs?

  • Im looking to make a movie hamper for my friend and son but am looking for some smoothie cups. I have found them on ebay but really only need to buy 6 at the most and the minimym on ebay is packs of 25. I have tried googling but by time you add postage they get quite expensive and most places only sell in minimums.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I can get a few from.
I have tried emailing the sellers on ebay but they wont sell smaller packs.:D

I got mine off ebay from a candle seller called candleliscious (i think). If you search for candlemaking kits on there there are quite a few. Mine was one with wax tarlet moulds in. To be honest though you don't need a kit as its quite straight forward. There are some pics of the ones i have done on my homepage (not using a kit). You can buy good supplies from www.4candles.co.uk and there is also lots of handy hints on their. You just need to buy wax, scent and colouring and then whatever container you want to use (either something from home like a glass dish etc or tealight cups etc which you can buy on this site.). You basically melt the wax until its melted in a double boiler i.e. a pyrex dish with the wax in inside a pan of boiling water (make sure the water doesn't get in the wax dish though) Once its all liquid add your colour. This is solid and needs to melt. use approx 1g per 100g of wax. Once its melted and stirred add your scent. Most oils from 4candles only need approx 5% so if you are melting 100g of wax use 5ml of oil (i use a medicine spoon to measure). Some other brands of oil need 10% i.e. 10g per 100g of wax. Once your scent has been added and stirred turn off your heat and pour.:D

Hope this makes sense x x

I've found a link to a site showing how to make various christmas/occasion gift boxes for our handmade items:
