Removal of Lexplore

I have been having loads of problems with mr PC over the last month or so, and have tried different things to sort it out, unsuccessfully.

My most recent problem is I keep getting an error message stating 'Lexplore'

When I googled this, I understand that this needs to be removed immediately. I have looked at various free scans, one of which tells me I have 999 problems!

However, it doesn't tell me how to remove LEXPLORE

Anyone advise me?

I am running Windows ME

ALSO, I am unable to use system restore, when I look at using this, it only gives me restore points for this current month, which is useless, anyone know how I can go further back?

Thank you

If a process named lexplore.exe is running on your computer, you may have been infected with a strain of the Sodabot worm.

lexplore.exe is considered to be a security risk

  • Thanks for the info, unfortunately, unable to download AVG as only available for XP, I'm currently using ME. (I do already have a version of AVG but can't get any updates, I do regularly run checks which picks up spyware but no sign of LEXPLORE)

I will carry on working through the list but do you know which specific download may assist with getting rid of LEXPLORE?

    Thank you
  • Try one of these.

  • I've tried to download Kaspersky, but it only offered me the 30 day free trial?

Anyway, downloaded it & it has been running a system scan now for over 2 hours and is only 50% through!

So far, it has found 6 items, which it states isn't a virus, but adware

  • Have looked at above thread, but am using ME and therefore unable to follow all instructions as some only available on XP

Since doing the scan using Kaspersky, it confirms 8 items have been located, adware-not virus, unable to delete?

Since doing the scan, unable to log onto Firefox, IE or Outlook.

Tried doing a system restore, but ALL prev checkpoints have been deleted?

Does anyone have a simple way of checking my settings before I do something drastic?

    Thank you
  • Try the removal instructions here.

  • That looks just what I need, but as I am unable to access the interent on my PC, how do I do this?

Is there a way I can link up my laptop to the PC using a cable?
  • The removal tool is only 162kb so download it to the machine you are using to access this site, copy it to a floppy, put the floppy in the infected machine and run the removal tool from the floppy.
