The Fire Brigade are under used and over resourced in London.

You have missed the point I tried to make , if the LFB are at a major incident then you will have to wait, if you needed an Ambulance, Police or LFB during the 7/7 bombings you had to wait, that is life, the Emergency services and breakdown services have finite resouces, when they are used they are used, no point moaning about it, you just have to look at the wider situation.

Ambulances and Police, to a lesser extent the LFB, have to be diverted to more serious calls all the time, there is nothing that can be done about that, what does annoy is when the entitlement brigade are happy to lie and exagerate their situation to gain higher priority, which happens all the time and costs lives daily in big cities like London, have seen it with my own eyes. Note the OP was happy to play the lone female card, she doesn't know if another lone female played the same card but was miles from anywhere with higher priority, she is just concerned with her own situation, with no regard for the problems of others in more dire circumstances, at the end of the day she had other options, who knows she may have been advised to phone a family friend if possible due to the high call volume, the LAS will phone back minor calls and advise making your own way to A/E if you are a mile away with a broken fingernail, or ask you if a family member has a car to drop you off, as the Ambulances need to prioritised to those in a serious situation, such as breathing difficulties of serious trama.

If I had called the LFB and a higher priority call came in then I would understand their situation, but as soon as I smelled smoke I would be out the house with the wife and kids pronto, I wouldn't wait for them even if they were on their way.

But then I never grew up in a city, where I grew up there was no Fire Brigade, just retained, and the Ambulances at night where only on standby at home.

It never ceases to amaze me how adults in places like London are completely unable to look after themselves these days.

If the AA has a situation where they had to send their last patrol to either a family stuck on the hard shoulder of the M1, miles from anywhere, with the road about to close, or to send the last patrol to a woman sat in a built up area, that had family she could phone for help, only a few miles from home, then I am sorry I would send the patrol to the M1.

But then somebody has to make such decisions, being on your own at a bad RTC and having to make a triage decision on who to save isn't nice but a decision has to be made, I have made such decisions, they aren't nice but they must be made.

It would be great if everybody got what they wanted when they wanted it, life isn't like that, but if I called the fire brigade and they where diverted to another more serious call then i wouldn't be happy about it, but I would understand, as I can put myself in their shoes.
  • this thread is a good example of how you can chase away a new member, too many personal opinions, not enough advice, regardless of how the post reads, the AA provide a break down service, OP broke down yes in bad weather conditions but was given poor service by way of not really being true to a time scale, the AA committed to that call out and committed to a time scale they failed this, they failed to recover her and her vehicle in the given committed time scale, so why not ask for a full refund? the car was never recovered yes it was cancelled by OP's BUT given the circumstances im not suprised, this is what it boils down to not because she is female or because she played a vunerable card, that was just for us men to feel sorry for her situation.

Personally, i think its a good example of how someone can get peoples backs up with the wrong approach and a particularly sad username.

Do you have counseling for that?
    What else upsets you?

what approach? so you say theres an approach to how you ask advice in the forums now? if theres an aproach rule to these forums youve broken it!!

If that call had said "the weather is bad, we're stretched beoynd our normal limits and it could be several hours" then the OP could have made an informed decision on calling taxi or relatives. But this didn't happen.

If anyone couldn't have worked that out for themselves in the three weeks before Xmas which has seen the worst weather for 100 years, especially when it was repeatedly reported RAC and AA were dealing with record calls, they must be blithering idiots.

I didnt say it upset me, i just thought it was particularly sad.

As others have said before me, it does indicate the sort of individual we are dealing with here.

So how come i've got 15 'thanks' so far on this thread alone, if my posts are unhelpful, and you've only had 3 (and none of them are from the O/P - so either the O/P doesnt think your posts are helpful or cant be bothered thanking you)?
  • I haven't been replying to this thread as there was no point in continuing the debate with some of you. But to compared I have more 'thanks' than you is a bit sad.

Merely demonstrating that their definition of unhelpful isnt necessarily valid.
