Is it not illegal for Tesco to have products on their shelves that are not in date?
We don't know if its best before date or sell by date - OP says sell date so presume its the latter. I imagine it is wrong but not versed in the law on it. Doesn't change the question - Tesco sold me / I bought?John0 -
while I agree with most of the posters that the best before dates are not meant to mean the product is unusable after that date, and that the OP is overreacting a tad - when I worked as a shelf-stacker it was part of the job to check the dates on products already on the shelves, and to remove the ones which were out of date. I think Tesco were quite generous with their offer of £20! it isnt illegal to sell items which are just past their best before.0

You would have know by now. In fact, you would have known rather immediately.
I'm surprised that you didn't accept the money. What else do you want them to do?
I'm also surprised it went through the till, when I was working in the Co-op as a student nothing that was past the sell-by date could go through the till - we even had a situation when a lady wanted to buy ham for her dog for 10p and we couldn't sell it to her, the computer wouldn't accept it.From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

I am unsure as to what i want really, maybe some reassurances as to it not happening again.
They can't Guarantee you it wont happen neither can any other super market. There run by these thing called humans and on they sometimes make mistakes, hence why it always wise to double check yourself.0 -
You should've taken the £20 compensation. Dont think you'll get another offer lol0

I can't believe someone would feed their baby formula without checking the date 1st. I check the dates on everything, usually in the shop and again before I actually use it.0

How did the computer know they were out if date? The barcodes on the products would be the same, and that's all that the till reads?0 -
Our tills don't flag up out of date products.0

However, I would disagree with the majority of posters and would advise the OP to take this further. Go to Environmental Health. I'm sure the law about selling baby food is different - we reduced it 3 months before its date even though we wouldn't with anything else. If it's a one-off then Environmental Health won't do anything, but if necessary it could lead to people being retrained or whatever is necessary to prevent this happening again. That's the important bit.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
