EDF switch - heard nothing. Stressed

Hi

Hope you all had a good Christmas.

I've been stressed. I know there has been a few threads about this but I need some advice that's a bit more in-depth.

Switched on the 5th dec to online saver 7. Got instant confirmation by email and tracked through topcash.

But heard nothing since. Checked with bank and no new DD instructions either.

I'm a glass-half-empty person so obviously was worried but now more so because I've seen a few posts on here where ppl have suffered similar: cashback tracked but EDF have no record of switch. Worst thing is I wanted to ring them and check the day after switch (being half-empty person and thinking they have messed it up) but stopped myself because I'm trying to stop being so pessimistic!

Stressed because:

Online 7 has now been withdrawn.

Have asked BG to freeze my prices as I'm switching (BG raised prices on 10th). This will not apply now if switch hasn't gone through as terms and conds state the only freeze if they get info from new supplier within 14 days.

Cashback through topcash has been withdrawn.

So, worst case scenario is losses on following scale:

Lost out on savings of £136 on gas and elec.

Lost out on £100 welcome bonus

Lost out on £90 cashback

EEK.

I have emailed them but that was xmas eve so don't expect to hear yet.

How can I proceed with this (if the glass is half-empty)?

I imagine they have got behind with all the applications. Get in touch with them by phone,as only they can tell you if it's processing.

Then again, I am a sort of brimming over the top of the glass type person. Deal with each stage of the process.:) Then decide the best course of action.

So who did you get your confirmation from? EDF, Switching site, casback site?

If it was from EDF then then can't deny your application.

So have you told EDF you want to switch to them?

    Both confirmed. Edf and topcash.

I switched directly with EDF through their website.

The other posters who have suffered the same have had to reapply again but that was when the tariff was still open to new customers.

If I ring them up I need to find a way to correctly explain and quantify the losses properly (and they may not have the aptitude to understand which will make the situation worse).

I think I will have to write about this one. Is it unreasonable to expect EDF to pay for losses, e.g. BG tariff difference, delay to switch etc?

    Switching can take 6-8 weeks.
I cannot see EDF compensating you as you are not yet their customer, have others been compensated?

Oh well, seems pretty simple to me to ring up and find out.

It's a bit condescending to say they couldn't understand the issue.

At this stage, you haven't sufferred any losses. It seems a bit strange to me,that you write this all down here and then can't be bothered to make a phone call.

I agree it seems a bit condescending but I don't say it lightly. How many posters on here have complained that their supplier doesn't understand the freezing tariff clause when switching?
Call centre workers aren't always all the ball whenever I ring them - although my stressed-out tone probably doesn't help!

If the switch hasn't gone through I have suffered a loss through their fault. BG will apply the higher charges and I have lost the opportunity to save money earlier on the new tariff.

I am not some compo chasing idiot - just don't want to lose out because of an IT glitch etc.

It has been just 3 weeks. Nothing much actually happens until the final week of the switch
  • I've found that letters from EDF are hit and miss due to the post and their use of second class post. I haven't yet received a letter saying my Gas account number or switch over date (which was last week!) but I've had the direct debit details for it. The letter for my electric requesting the meter read arrived the day before the switchover!

The thrust of most people's responses so far has been to relax. :)

Switching does take time, usually between 4 to 6 weeks and documentation does filter through during this period. Of course, you may be correct that your application has been lost in the ether, but I still suspect it is a combination of high volume, christmas postal delays and poor weather.

We can only give reassurance here, because we can't obviously resolve the issue directly. I realise EDF are closed today. The suggestion to ring was at the first opportunity. You still seem reluctant based on previous experiences but it will still be the quickest way of getting to first base imho.

I would think if you have got an e mail response confirming the set up,they will honour the original terms. In those circumstances BG should also recognise you started the switch within the prescribed time window.

Let us know how you get on. Please have a wee dram.....even if it is only a quarter of the way up the glass to help you through it all. ;)
