Perhaps because they employ qualified opticians and provide high quality goods are far less than the high street optician

I'm sorry but unless your an optician who has access to the eyetest you cannot possibly state that as a fact.

If you read my whole post you would see that I did actually ask whether the OP had access to the eyetest to review.

Also, are you actually suggesting that the OP dd eyes magically got better and then much worse?

    I forgot to add something.

Teenage girls can be a f**king nightmare to examine accurately. Variable results, variable symptoms, variable cooperation. Sometimes can take several attempts to get a good result, sometimes over a long time period. Don't know why, hormones?

Whilst the above quote does not seem very likely, that can at times be the actual result found.

  • Love the way some people seem to think the Asda optician was correct, no matter how implausible that would be.

If you've complained to Asda and got nowhere, you may want to make a formal complaint about the optician to the General Optical Council.

Well I have to say Ive had the same issue, although actually with Specsavers. Been wearing glasses for reading etc since I was about 12, eyes tested fairly regularly and my prescription changed a fair bit, moved to uni and went to a different Specsavers as I squashed my old glasses, suddenly they say I have near perfect vision and don't need glasses, infact they told me my headaches etc were a figment of my imagination - cue putting up with not being able to see for a while - Got eyes retested this time at Boots and guess what Im back to glasses again. Im of the opinion now that if the eye test suggests something a lot different from what your expecting then probably best to get tested again somewhere different....

  • Worth noting is certain medication can cause eyesight changes too, anti-depressants for example, on them I have much poorer long distance vision - needing to squint to read say the menu in McDonalds, without medication I have near perfect vision.

    hope this makes sense;

ASDA [all measurments relate to distance] RIGHT SPH +0.75 /CYL-0.25/AXIS 180
    LEFT CYL -0.25/AXIS 90

    2ND TEST;RIGHT [distance] SPH +0.50
[near] CYL +2.00 [reads like 200 assuming its 2.0]

LEFT [distance] same as right .

the asda test have no measurments for either eye in relation to near sight . i was there while she was being tested so all questions were answered accurately .

  • Tesco eyetest came back improved but I still needed glasses/contacts.
Bought some contacts, useless. My old ones are still fine though.
I asked if the fact I was tired could affect it (just off nightshift) they said no.

OK - well if I'm reading this right, then the distance portion on both prescriptions is very similar and not very significant. If I saw an asymptomatic patient with that prescription, then I wouldn't be prescribing that either.

What does concern me is that by your own implication she was asymptomatic 1st time around and then developed symptoms a few months later and a loss of accommodation was found at the second test, requiring some help with reading focus. If that accommodative loss was present at the 1st test, then she would have had symptoms then. There is no way not prescribing specs at the 1st appointment would have led to this deterioration in vision.

So was the reason for this loss of accommodation investigated? In my experience, it could be psychological, neuroligical or just plain fatigue(illness, medication, sudden increase in workload at school....).

Complaining about the 1st test will get you nowhere. I don't think Asda have done anything wrong either.
