Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 27th Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning

Boxing day over and we are greeted with gales and rain here. It's very unpleasant out there.

Mum put on some great fayre yesterday afternoon and I raided Dad's malt whiskey collection... Lagavulin being my favourite.

I was right yesterday when I said about my kids working. Mc D's had 2 customers in 4 hours and Eden paid more in wages than it took on the tills. When will they learn?

3 kids working today, they might get more customers? No idea what to do? Go to the shops in the rain? Stay at home and eat? I am almost bored,

Have a good day and don't buy anything unless its at least 75% off

    Morning my lovelies :D

Was quite shocked seeing the crush in Selfridges yesterday  I mean we've just got through the festivities of "spend, spend, spend" and then to see sooooooo many people doing it all again. Don't get me wrong I love a bargain and I have money to spend for Christmas but it was only Boxing day  Can we not have a break from the shopping god for at least 2 days :o
    <gets off soapbox>
Kids have money to spend for Christmas and DS really wants some Ben 10 figures after seeing a little boy at the Christingle service with some. Hope too goodness it's not too busy up retail park as I have a banging headache after coughing all night. Bit ironic we are going shopping after my little rant above but I just think we ought to have a couple of days break from the obsession with spending money :o
Not much else going on. Need to buy DD a proper bed and want to try and get that done this week before that VAT rise.
No idea about tea as the kids have no appetite due to this cold. Again. Will we all be well ffor New Year? Not holding my breath :(

Hugs, spoons and high fives all round.

Have a good day OS or not.

Don't panic over VAT... It seems like a big deal, but it will only be £7.50p on a £300 bed. And I think most companies will suck up that increase as they will be desperate to sell things....

True but I'd rather keep the £7.50 in my pocket ;) :rotfl:

Hope you're not too bored today ;)

Bitsy - head out to Boots - I saw online last night that they had a Ben10 Humungosaur bath pillow for £2.50 I thought this was great fun!

Morning everyone - getting ready for the expected snowfall here tom!rrow - only to look out and see its snowing now. Has Yorkshire not heard about the weather - tomorrow, NOT today! Need to blitz the house - what with all the present opening and 2 young children and 2 large dogs it quickly gets messy if I don't keep on top of it. Planning on popping to our local tesco as I want to see if I can get any funky socks to make sock monkeys with for next year.

Lots of OS going on here - of course - and set to continue for as long as possible. Meals today depend on who arrives - we might have parents and brother and GF. If so then we'll have jacket potatoes and cheese & salad, and then mince pies for pud. Turkey from Christmas now turned into two curries and a decent stock for soup. Will have to sort out the freezer to see what we have. Now must find the hoover and have a quick fly around the house xxx

    Have a great day everyone.
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

Morning folks, thankfully the lurgy is passing, and we are all on the mend again. Will have to do the visits that we had postponed over the past few days to my dads and MIL, back to work tomorrow, as I get the extra days tagged onto the new year holidays. Had a day yesterday just chilling out and resting. There has been a few inches of snow AGAIN overnight!!!! When is this going to go away - hopefully this week will see a shift in whats lying around. Thats been a full month now we have had snow and it is getting so depressing! Looked at the finanaces yesterday too - wasnt a pleasant job but at least I have made a start. I will also have to go and read the electric and gas meters today - I have been putting that off too!!!!! Oh dear it seems I am putting off a lot at the moment - new years resolution - dont put anything off that can be done today.
Any meals today will be left overs and anything from the fridge, as there is still quite a bit to be used up.

Well must move - will go and read the meters NOW - one more thing off the list!!

edit:eek::eek:have just read my meters and we have used £248 of gas and electric since the 14th November., going from £189 in credit to being almost £60 in debit. Averaging out at £31 per week. cutbacks definate!!! tree lights offf and illuminated santa off unless DGS is here!

    Morning folks.

Not as cold today as last week, no frost on the car but still snow on the roads.

Chocolate is all gone :o so, yes SunnyDay, it's back to pepperami now. Had bacon and eggs for breakfast which went down a real treat.

Need to head out to the shops to do some minor replenishing and will wander into the city to browse the shops. There's not anything we need to buy, or even want to buy, but it's nice to look and get some fresh air.

Leftovers still rule in this house but only probably for today. We tried cooking sprouts in butter and not water and they turned out really well, tasty and nutty and not at all mushy so will do that again.

The dishwasher has turned out to be the 'best buy' of the year :j and I am just loving the kitchen being clear most of the time.

Hope everyone is warm and well.
  • Good Morning All

Hope you all had Wonderful Christmases

We did here but its back to normal for me today. Have quite a few hours work ahead. OH will clean the house and get some washing done :D

Have Xmas dinner again tonight, just us 4. Will sort out the turkey for the freezer, also have a large number of sprouts so will blanche them and freeze them too.

Loads of chocolate and leftovers so kids will be able to graze:)

Can't believe Crazychiks photo's on facebook of Easter Eggs in Tesco

Better get going, have a great day all.x
  • Morning all

All the snow has disappeared  literally it has all melted overnight. It had been on the ground for over a week now (last snow was last Mon). Still white as anything yesterday, but it's almost all gone now :( looks a bit sad outside.

I'm off to Cardiff shortly for some window shopping. There is nothing I *need* in sales so hoping not to buy too much. I want a printer but will buy that locally. I'm going on the train, I'll get on where I live and my 2 friends will get on at next station 20mins away.

I'm leaving the rugby tickets in my postbox for my brother to collect if he is not too hungover to go later. Still very annoyed about the whole cancelling/rescheduling malarky .

    Have a fab day all

    Morning all

Seems really dark here this morning, forecast is snow tomorrow not today, but I'm not so sure!

Had a nice day yesterday as spent it with bro and sil and sis's families, went better than expected and was able to cope with it all. Although I was glad to come home last night, pleased I made the effort so my boys didn't miss out on seeing their cousins, they seemed to have had a wonderful time.

Will spend today getting packed and ready for going away tomorrow morning, now quite looking forward to it, need to get away for a change of scene and see our friends and have a good time. Very much need to start looking forward and not back, although will hopefully be getting help to address the issues from the past shortly. We will also be sorting the house out, looks like a bombsite, so will just need to get everything tidied up, meals will consist of leftovers, so we won't be throwing anything away, must keep plodding on with the OS theme!

Now going for another coffee then will get showered and dressed ready to tackle the day.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

  • Good morning

A nice start to the morning in Lincolnshire, doesn't look to have been too frosty overnight.

We are starting our kitchen blitz today - DH isn't at work until 3pm, I am off all day and I have 2 of my DSs here to 'help'. Hoping to put some shelves up and sort out all the cupboards. May even get a look at what is in the chest freezer and sort it out, if we have time - and make a list of what is hiding at the bottom.

This is the year I WILL get the house organised.

Bought a turkey at Sains yesterday 75% off, so will cook that today.

Can't be doing with tackling/fighting my way through the sales hunters, so won't be going into town.

    Have a good day everyone.
