A lower car has a lower centre of gravity, it's more stable at high speed, has less body roll in corners, is less likely to under/oversteer and doesn't pull a nose dive under heavy braking (= shorter stopping distances.)
Sure the boyracers do it to look like something from "Need for Speed Underground", but it does also serve a purpose.
Ahem. That is why I said over-lowering, and if you read earlier in the thread you will see that my car is lowered as well.Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0 -
I know the difference between a VOSA inspection centre and an MOT station.
Had to take my car to one once after an MOT station screwed up the mileage reading on my car, and the inspector claimed my numberplate was illegal, handed me some photocopied documents "proving" it at which I pointed out a clause at the bottom that makes them legal, at which point he refused to talk to me any more and disappeared into his office in a sulk.
Did you have a motorbike plate on an import?I've had similar problems with local bobby saying it was illegal.I managed to get full size chars onto a square plate just to keep them quiet. The spacing isn't quite right though in doing so though-cant win.0 -
My EX was from Bedwas (Caerphilly) and we went up that way alot as there used to be a Motocross shop up there.
We passed through one night as met a few people from Cliosport.net when i had my clio sport and was shocked at how many police/boy racers there were.
Oh and Lum is spot on with the Asda speed humps. They should be geographically recorded being so big !
i know the shop, cliosport, ford ownersclub those on the forums an stuff not officials so was an unofficial gathering, that attracted allot of ahem car enthusiasts, and allot un wanted attention from the silly squads. genuinly we had alot of respect to people around us and the police, me and a group actually went to a meating once about the problem in the town, we didnt get a good reception to put it bluntly at first, but after explaining and back up from two plods some residents seen our view as we actually helped officers identify the small groups of trouble, we werent the ones drifting, we werent the ones banging 4000db of uncohearant babble from our stereo's 1-2-3-4 oclock in the morning of thursdays friday and saturdays and we put our concerns of those behaving this way forward and tried to ask the police to target these groups hard with dipersal orders, and work with us in properly identifying these groups, a mutual agreement was met but the big police seargant decided to leave and left the door open to another one who had zero tollerance on all of us and thats when things went wrong. the police took a hard zero tollerance and a rebeelion started if it was handled differently i believe that those who want to show thier cars would have a designated area watched closly by the plod for bad behaviour and away from residents, when it got too much we used to go to the council offices in pontllanfriath to get away from the stupid groups.
back to the OP there isnt law on ride hight, if there was kit cars would have trouble in getting them approved for road use.
overlowering has its ups and downs, firslty youd be removing your splash guards allowing more water than normal to fly up under the bonnet, allowing more rust factors, rolling the inner arches breaking the seams and damaging the paint allowin rust to form, then as most do is forget about camber exhaust clearances, damaging the floor with a copper behind you could lend you being reported to the council for you to fit the bill for repairs.
most vehicles have anti rollbar links attached to the susspension leg lowering excessivly these will have to be replaced with shorter ones, so wont be manufacturer approved and you dont know how affective they can be. lowering can have excess stress on suspension parts such as driveshafts anti roll bar rubbers, balljoints, and even gearbox mountains, and wishbones. the cost to replace when they go isnt high but you replace more often. personally i dont lower any vehicle more than 35mm all round on adjustables, i use either kayaba, shox, koni i fit them then have the camber adjusted allong with tracking and then tested to see if there excess stress on the link bars, polybushed anti roll rubbers they down side to polybushes they squeek like no tomorrow!0 -

Pretty much, yes, though in the standard 13x6.5 size rather than motorbike sized. Motorbike font though.
Also they're backlit, like on TVRs0 -
Well, on the subject of Blackwood and "boy racers" I've just been out to get some breakfast because sod it it's Christmas and I don't want to cook.
Visibility is down to under 50 metres because of the fog, yet the only car (apart from my own) with any lights on at all is a barried Corsa occupied by two baseball cap wearing youngsters. They were running sidelights and rear fog light. Everybody else was basically appearing out of nowhere making things dangerous indeed on the roads that are full of parked car.
Youngsters, they're all idiots eh?0 -

Surely if they deemed it bad enough to use rear fog lights, then dipped headlights were necessary.

Dipped headlights usually make it worse in this thickness of fog as they just illuminate the moisture particles making it harder to see. It's daytime so the extra illumination wasn't needed anyway, sidelights are plenty for being seen.0

The rear fogs would alert a car behind that there is a car in front as they work through fog...surely that is their function?! Lum is perfectly correct.Weight loss: Start weight: 80kg; Current Weight: 77kg; Target weight: 55kg0
