I have replied on your other thread but I would still ask the plumber about the communication pipe as that is still your responsiblity. It is fine to go to the paper but make sure it really is UU fault first otherwise it does tend to look a little silly ( like when someone picks a country that has monsoons for a wedding and then goes during monsoon season and complains when they get wet)

I did suggest checking that the main stop tap is on as well as it might have been turned off during the work ?

Understood, couldn't cope with having my picture in the paper anyway.
Just don't know where to go from here, feel as if I am getting fobbed of as an old foggy of no consequence. The plumber did think it might be the communication pipe but he did some checks where the water meter is and said that was fine.
Hubby had a fall tonight getting water from a neighbour, not hurt badly, but a bit shaken. God I am fed up with this. I keep telling myself that other folk have it worse, fraid it doesn't help

If it's OK up to the meter, the it's frozen between there and the property and it's your responsibility I'm afraid. The exceptionaly cold weather has caused supply pipes to freeze even at the standard depth which is normally frost free.

the plumber said he tested that and it's OK. Very low pressure though which is the water company's fault.
  • Sorry to hear hubby had a fall > Is he ok ?

The low pressure again might not be their fault though if it is being caused by frozen pipes past the meter.

I am starting to wonder if your plumber has given you the right info as it really does sound like the fault is on your side.

Are you by any chance in a council house ? Or does your area offer reduced rate work through a council scheme ( there is on here for OAP's but that might not be the same everywhere )

I wish I could offer more help and advice but it really does sound like this is not something UU will be dealing with.

You could however call them again and explain that your hubby had a fall and you are scared he might really hurt himself and see if they can do anything at all seeing as things will have calmed down somewhat by now.

We own our own bungalow, will check the council for that.
He's OK, apart from the bad language. Just a bit shaken, and a couple of bruises no real damage. Thinking about the plumber, he was here 5 minutes and i had given him the lo-down on what had happened on the phone so he knew what to look for. I got him from the internet and it did seem to be a well established firm.
Agree that it might be something to do on my side now, just that the leak they were mending had me suspecting it had something to do with that. They still haven't been back to that, just patched it up temporally. We are coping quite well really. Can't do any housework (hurrah ) and we will take my washing to my daughters later and have a shower. God do we need a shower.

Gothicfairy mentioned the council, so Phoned them to see if they could help and they said they would phone the environmental health department to see if they could help. Less than an hour later my water is back on. Might be a coincidence though. Was obviously nothing to do with frozen pipes as the pressure is higher than it has ever been. Glory be, a bath at last. And thanks to everybody who tried to help me

That is really good news, glad something worked ( or not but who will ever know ? ) as I wasn't even sure about putting the bit about the council incase they couldn't help ( and did not want to offend with the OAP thing either)

Just think of all that housework waiting for you now though....Tee hee

if you mean calmed down calls wise then i think they are still really busy , few mates were on for ages just this morning. i would say if theres no area specific listings under the emergencies bit on their website then its going to be quieter
