Have you been leaving your heating on 24/7 in this big freeze?

My heating is off from 11pm to 4:30am. Had to have it on all day over Christmas to keep everyone happy, otherwise it's off from 7:30am to 5pm as I'm the only one in the house and am not prepared to pay to heat the whole house just for me. Do have an electric heater in the one room I use most though.:)
No sign of pipes freezing and it's 2 whole degrees above zero this morning, so hopefully the worst is over until at least January. First time I've seen positive numbers in 10 days, better get the shorts out!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. with 2 young children there is no way im letting them get anything like cold , so yes my heating is on 24/7.0

Yep heating is on 24/7. I don't care what it costs, I hate being cold and my wife and I do not work hard to have a cold house.0

Mines been on 24/7 only on the really cold nights otherwise on 5:00am-11:00pm house is well insulated but detached so no heat from anyother props.
Found in my prop its not too much more costly to keep house warm all day then turn on and off as most of my gas is used in the first 1-1 1/2 of start up from cold then it just ticks over so I keep it on at about 21c downstairs and 18c upstairs.
Also I have 4 children all coming and going most days.
As others have said I make provision for this cost and will not be cold in my own house as I was as a child.Look after the pennies and the pounds will spend themselves0 -

But remember, 3 cold winters do not make an ice age. I'm at least going to give it a few more years before I go investing in a snowmobile and 4x4
Makes the gas suppliers happy though, and they've just put their prices up. Certainly been a good Christmas for them - want to place a bet on them getting a nice little year-end bonus??I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. If you have a thermostat you are not leaving your heating on 24/7 if the thermostat works properly and you don't have it set at a level which the heating never gets to despite being on constantly. The thermostat switches all bar the pump off when the desired temp is reached, so it is the whole point that you leave it on all winter! If you want to save money then turn the thermostat down, but switching off and getting cold then switching on and getting warmer (or less cold) defeats the point of having a thermostat! If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused0

A few years back when decorating the hall, I changed the thermostat for a programmable one. That means you can leave the heating on 24x7, but control it automatically from the thermostat. So thermostat is set to reduce at night to stop the house getting too cold, but increases at 06:00 so that it's wamer when you wake up, and then can reduce again during the day and increase ready for when you get home from work.0

Yes I got a wireless programmable one but tbh just knock it down to 16 when I go to bed or go out and up to 18 during the day.If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused0
