EBAY P&P arguement....

what should i do...i bidded on an item and the guy didnt specify a p&p (i did ask before the auction but i didnt get a response). anyway he added a price which i didnt object to but merely sent the following remark before paying...
ME
"hmmm i somewhat question your approach to postage and packaging charges...in all honesty i should be paying the price i won on as no price was mentioned!? had i have payed straight away before an invoice was issues there would be no question about what price i payed?"
and this is what happened from then on.....
Him
"No one selling on e-bay includes the postage & packing on the selling price as inclusive.
I have an excellent reputation for quick service good products and swift & good packaging. In view of your somewhat uncalled for remark I suggest we do not do any further business.
Yours Sincerely"
Me
"Now that is slightly uncalled for, i never said i wouldn't have paid the amount, and i will do now- i just point out that it should be stated. If you look at most other auctions they do include p&p so it helps the buyer? this is not a dig its just helpfull, for all i know you could have turned round and added £5p&p and then the deal wouldnt be so good would it? surely you see this as a logical point?"
Him
"Sorry we are not all that devious please DO NOT SEND THE MONEY"
Me
"I dont understand why you feel so harshly about this? I'm sorry for pointing this out, im sorry for apparantly hitting a nerve. so where do we go from here? I'm down an item that i have said i will pay for and pay for right now? and you have broken a contract with me - surely? cant we just let bygones be...and sort out this properly?"
Him
"You have inferred I have hidden costs, if you are not happy with the way I conduct myself then I have no wish to sell the item to you.
Please do not send any further e-mails, and please do not bid on any further items from my collection. I reserve the right to sell or not to whosoever I choose.
I hope this is now clear. "
This is the point im at now and im guessin that im on a loosing battle in regards to this but how do i know that he isnt going to turn round and neg me?? im just a bit annoyed and upset with his responses and wondered what you'ed do about it?

Hi
If i were you I would contact ebay, inform them of the situation and see what they do/say because the seller could be breaking one of ebays policies by refusing to sell to you.
They usually reply within 24 hours if you use their online help form.
Hope this helps,
EhosinYO!0 -
I never bid on items which don't specify postage, at the very least you should check with the seller for the cost first as you did. If no reply then take this as a danger sign that the seller is probably iffy.
Not worth a neg over an issue like this.
Do your best to end things amicably and either pay the postage asked for or don't carry on with the transaction. You could suggest that you leave each other positive feedback if you don't carry on.
I wouldn't bother wasting your time with a seller like this.0 -

Not get into a silly argument in the first place.
Unless it says free P&P it isn't going to be is it. Yes, sellers should show P&P, but until ebay makes it obligatory the sorts of people who don't, won't. The sorts who don't being either lazy, new to ebay, or crooks.
Anybody who bids on an auction without the P&P shown, without getting confirmation from the seller how much it will be, is bonkers.0 -

thanks for this insightfull bit of information, but that doesnt really help me now does it?? i didnt actually ever object to the ammount of p&p it was his methodology and was ok to pay but the fact that he has now turned round and ended the auction and his terms "I reserve the right to sell or not to whosoever I choose" surely defeat the point of an ebay contract? i just dont wanna risk being ned'ed now thats my only issue...do i have a valid case for proper ebay help?0 -
EBay will be unlikely to help, they rarely get involved in disputes like this.
Your best bet is still to resolve things with the seller. Offer to buy him a beer or something..... you could make a friend for life.....
Seriously though, try and resolve things, avoid a negative, get a positive, then all is sorted and you won't have to deal with them again.0 -
I'm not sure if you're a newbie to eBaying or not, but as other posters have pointed out you should be clear on the P+P costs BEFORE bidding. Your seller hasn't actually done anything wrong in regards to adding the P+P cost.
Please see eBay's policy
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/buy/buytrust-shipping.html
However, having said this your seller is apparently becoming a non selling seller which is also against eBay rules. You could report him for this.
In future, i would make sure you are 100% clear on the P+P costs before placing a bid."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
I personally never bid on items which don't specify postage as get abit wary when not specifiedIt is not what you give your friend, but what you are willing to give him that determines the quality of friendship. -- Mary Dixon Thayer0

I think you might get stuck with a problem here. If as he suggests you don't pay now he can report you as a non paying bidder and get a strike against your account.
If he is a high positive feedback seller and accepts paypal then I would suggest paying immediately by paypal the full amount on the invoice. You have some protection then if the item doesn't arrive and you can also show you have attempted to pay if he starts an NPB against you.
As a seller I always put a post and packing charge. However, if I ever forgot and then had a winning bidder send me the email you sent I would be fuming. Yes it looks polite and i'm sure you meant it politely but as a seller to me it flags you up immediately as a problem new buyer and I would want to walk away from the transaction as well.
Sorry to be harsh and i hope this works out well for you.

the issue is, im not a new buyer...i have pos feedback....and its not just thre one item he doesnt add it too its all of his....i dont believe i'm the 1st person to say this too him....If he is a high positive feedback seller and accepts paypal then I would suggest paying immediately by paypal the full amount on the invoice. You have some protection then if the item doesn't arrive and you can also show you have attempted to pay if he starts an NPB against you
you would do this even though he has specifically said dont send the money???would want to walk away from the transaction as well.
but on what grounds would you be able to walk away from the transaction? i have NEVER stated that i wouldnt pay the ammount, and i was going to pay it...part of me feels this has come about because i got a bargain as well and this is a good way of not selling it
