Hi everyone
haven't posted for a while, I've been a bit poorly so although I made a start on my Tenby Harbour, its going very slowly, so no point in posting a pic yet!
Am happy today though that my Rainbow Peacock arrived this morning, my 1st buy from overseas, and I saved £10 on UK prices :j
It will be a while before I get onto that one though, as I really want to get going on my Tenby Harbour, my mum has give me back the Corrie kit I gave her for xmas, she's got a bit of arthritis & doesnt think she'll be able to do it, so I'll be doing it for her.
And I've got to finish off a wedding sampler for my niece's wedding in June, only need to add their names & the date, so am pretty busy!
I'm 42 now, I have to stop and think when someone aske me my age! For my 40th we went on a cruise with some friends, spent my birthday in Rome so will never forget it!
Was given my 1st kit about 17 years ago, haven't really done a lot of stuff though, but once I get going on something I get a bit obsessed! 2 of my workmates are also x-stitchers, so we're a bit competitive, it spurs you on a bit keeping up with someone else!
We're hoping to go the stitching show at the NEC at the end of March, must start putting some £'s away so I can add to my stash
Soulie, will be thinking of you next week
Kimmi0 -
Evening folks,
Big Zen hugs to all who need or want them, and all the best to Soulie for next Wednesday.
Apologies for the lateness of my weekly update - I was at a meeting on Monday night, Pilates on Tuesday night and last night my sister came round and decluttered me!
Anyway, here is my Sunflower Girl - this is as of Tuesday night so a week plus a day - http://s618.photobucket.com/albums/tt268/rowantanner/?action=view¤t=SunflowerGirl-Week3-25Jan2011.jpg
I want to get her finished by 28 Feb so that I can get her washed, pressed and framed in time for my niece's birthday on 10 March. I reckon that gives me 4.5 weeks so I need to crack on cos the backstitch is going to take a while, especially on the sunflowers.
As to the age question, I shall be 40 at the end of September and am planning to have a week away on my own, reading, stitching and trying to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Magscat - I travelled on the Trans-Siberian (Moscow - Vladivostock) back in May 1993 when I was a student. I would hope that the trains will have improved since then, even though we went by first class sleeper. In case they haven't, although the pictures that I've just looked at on the Net look OK, take plenty of loo roll and snacks. And whatever you do, have a great time!
All the best,
RoWhen the going gets tough, the tough eat chocolate!Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member No. 150 -

Hope everything goes okay for next week soulie and the weather stays dry.Cross Stitch Challenge Member Number 20
New challenge finish birth sampler by end of the month
No matter how much life knocks you down, it's your ability to get back up, brush yourself off and face your next set of challenges that makes you stronger0 -
I'm very nearly 35:eek:, and have been cross stitching since I was 10. Most people I know think cross stitching is for 'older' people, especially my best mate:cool:, who incidentally crochets and knits!!!
When I posted the picture of the Christmas stocking I did, one of my friends commented that I'd soon be sitting in a rocking chair, wearing a shawl and knitting :eek:It's my brother's funeral on Wednesday, so I am just keeping busy until Tuesday, when I will be going up to Leeds.
You'll be in my thoughts on Wednesday, Soulie; hope it all goes well :grouphug:It will be a while before I get onto that one though, as I really want to get going on my Tenby Harbour, my mum has give me back the Corrie kit I gave her for xmas, she's got a bit of arthritis & doesnt think she'll be able to do it, so I'll be doing it for her.
Tenby Harbour? In Wales? Do you have a link to that one? I might have to put it on my wishlist. I went to Tenby with OH in 2006, which was a special year as I got rid of my breast cancerIt was also the year I got my breast cancer, got MRSA, lost my b00bs and gained new ones, but let's not talk about that
Oh, look, I multi-posted! For the first time ever!0 -
Just done a quick look. Is it this one?? If so WOW, on my wishlist now too!!
yep thats the one I am getting. I'll let you know when they get here and you can have aof both.
Louise - you are welcome totoo
I'm really excited about getting them both. Tough decision will be which one to start 1st as I think they will take me a while.
While I'm waiting for them to arrive i'm gonna make a start on a rug from my cath kidston stitch book0 -
Well I am one of the oldies, I am 54 although I don't feel it. I have been cross stitching since I was in my 20's on and off which is why I have so many UFO's lol. I am going to be a granny in June so I will be focussing on more stuff for children.0

craftygranny - I've pm'd you - thanks alot.
pm2326 & caroline 78 - Happy Birthday for tomorrow
kimmi - hope you're feeling better.
Soulie - hope all goes well on Wednesday, my thoughts are with you and your family
I've started a coaster kit of some strawberries that I've had in my stash at least 7 years. I'm doing it for my MIL for mothers day - 1st time I've done anything like this for her before so hope she likes it. Will try to post a picture but need to work out how.
This forum has kick started my crafting in general. I've made a bracklet, 2 pairs of earrings and 3 necklaces since Monday. I'm really pleased with myself.Cross Stitch Cafe Member #59 :j

Long post-sorry! Felt the need to comment a lot!Ruth_honey I'm 32 now, had a career but got ill and had to give it up as I got too ill to work :-( (more time to cross stitich though so there is a bright side!) so I really wouldn't worry about the whole 'grown up' thing! ...31 feels worse than 30 for some bizarre reason!
...Anyway, the lacing - I usually just cheat and stitch the end of a thread into a random bit at one corner and make it up from there. It usually works!
Yep, I've done heaps more stitching since I've not been working. At least we're doing something productive with our time.
Will have to give lacing a go. Sticky mount board is so pricey now.35 is worse than 30 and 31, I promise you
I'll ignore 35 then & just have 34 part 2!Apocasaver wrote: »It's quite strange seeing people's ages on here. Most of my friends think cross stitch is for the mature person and can't understand why I bother with it. Yet that stereotype seems totally wrong as so far most seem to be around their 30s. (I'm 27 by the way, but feel at least 35!!)
I remember in the last thread we had a discussion about our ages and it did surprise me how many of us were in our late 20s/early 30s. Just shows that even without thinking, I was assuming we'd be older. Very naughty of me, I know. Shouldn't judge & all that...
I'm 37 tomorrow (and not liking the fact I'm getting nearer to 40!)
Anyway good news....I finally finished my UFO :T:T:T

Feel the need for a little dance now seeing as she's taken 9 month to do ...

:bdaycake: Happy Birthday for tomorrow! :bdaycake:
And congratulations on your finish! It looks fab! :TI am thinking of just getting it completed and framed for when they get back from their minimoon as I'm not sure they are going to get time to open their pressies before they go anyway.
Vickie
They'll have more time to appreciate it after the minimoon anyway, so relax and rejiggle the deadline. And get well soon. Far too many people ill at the moment.

0665146]I'm due for a mid-life crisis in May when I hit 40.
See signature - I'm going a third of the way round the planet on a train. V v v excited. :j
13 weeks to go![/QUOTE]
Oooh, that sounds amazing! Would love to see pics when you're back. I quite fancy doing a train trip in Canada someday.

maybe I should have said she went crazy
Tell her from me it is still ok to ride a motorbike & do cross stitch! I do. I have a lovely Virago 535cc.If any of you live in or around Essex you might be interested in this show. It's the first time it's been held in Braintree so I've no idea what it'll be like. We usually go to the shows at Ally Pally and Excel in London but the driving was such a faff. This one is an easy 20 min drive for us so I hope it's a success.

Thanks for that! I might be able to talk my friend into going on the Thurs or Fri. Can't do Saturday as we're off to Milton Keynes so DH can go indoor skydiving...:rotfl:

Oooh, my floatation was fun, BTW. Then went to Gormet Burger Kitchen for lunch & had a very yummy burger. And tonight have been 'forced' to agree to a holiday in Center Parcs for a friends birthday. It's the Easter weekend, so hoping for some sunshine. Will be good to get away and spend some time in the fab pool there.
Right, I need to stop rambling or this post will go on forever...Night all! x

Actually, I lied. I'm not 35, I'm 21 and a bit*
