Sounds like a great birthday 23rdspiral I'm originally from a small village not too far away from Bakewell and love it there. Now live 30 mis from Buxton so it's a nice Sunday out these days!
Can't believe people don't want to be 30 - I 'practiced' for mine on my 29th I was so excited then on my actual birthday I was taken to Las Vegas and OH proposed at the top of the fake Eiffle Tower!!! ...Oh the memories!!!
Actually managed to get a bit more of the Kingfisher done last night but no massive progress so I'll save posting pics til later in the week.

finished Dh valentine card just got to get a mount for it, found a little pin cushion id started and put aside so finished the stitching on that last night (it was a cover kit from cross stitcher mag years ago) thinking i might look through my mags and try to find an old tractor to do for my dad, his birthday is end of feb so even if i can only find him a little one i can do it as a card.
don't know about an old fashioned stylee tractor but i am 99% sure i have a tractor motif/ pic in one of mags if you want me to have a look.loves how my "I've been censored" signature has been censored. LOL. Happy Christmas. :xmastree:0 -
23rd spiral you've made me all nostalgic for Derbyshire! My mum's friend used to have a holiday cottage in a little village called Monyash near Bakewell, and we'd go there in the school holidays. It was so lovely all around that area. I think the only bad point was trying a 'real' Bakewell tart, I can still remember how sick I felt afterwards :rotfl:
I'm going back to finish off noah's ark, so that means my rocket for the SAL will be put down for the next couple of weeks. Or maybe longer as I've got to start on my parents Ruby wedding piece after I've finished the ark. I'll have to make sure it doesn't end up in the UFO pile at the end of the year though!0 -
oooh 23rd spiral sounds like you had a good trip. I remember cross stitch magic though i don't think i bought it. I do have a couple of teddy bear kits from it given to me by a friend.
Hope everyones well. Hows the backstitch going chicky are you nearly there.
here's my latest update pic. not much more to go. I even had a go at french knots for the eyes and they seem ok to me. I have bad eyes though lol.Cross Stitch Challenge Member Number 20

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes!
I did have such a lovely time. I wasn't too keen on turning 30 (mostly as i'd hoped we'd be hitched by now but money and nan being ill got in the way), so going away to re-direct focus on the holiday was great... and it also felt like we properly celebrated too.
sounds like i missed a trick not having a big 29th as practice! [edit: i can't believe i forgot. we cremated my nan the day before my birthday last year, and scattered her the day after. we'd been waiting almost a month for a gap so had to go with it despite the terrible dates.]
Happy Crafter - thanks for the offers of photocopies of those charts... i'll take a further look first in case i can figure them out... dont want you to go to any bother. And of course, Louise might find the charts and they might scan easily!(there was a big folder of sewing cards in the shop aswell, but it was a bit expensive, looked a bit like one my mum had in the 90s and it seriously woundn't have fitted in the car!!! it didnt even occur to me the charts would be there... they were selling everything individually and there were a few more kits there that i didnt buy either.)
today i found 3 mini red/green plastic hoops & a paperweight blank for 1.25 in a CS! and also did some stitching on the cupcakes whilst waiting for my car to be mended.:DRelax, Breathe, Love 2014 Challenges:Cross Stitch Cafe Challenger 23. Frugal Living Challenger. No buying cleaning products. I used MSE advice to reduce my car insurance from 550 to 325!! & paid it off in full!!!0 -
Hope all are well. Its my last day at work tomorrow so long weekend for me :j I'm hoping to finish the anniversary card for my OH at the weekend as its our anniversary next week and I have a valentines design to finish as well that I'm hoping I will be able to find a card aperture for - otherwise - it will be a mad dash into town to find a frame ! I looked at some valentines cards in the shops just in case I don't manage to finish both and they are just so  in price.
. Better get stitching !
I am still waiting for my mouseloft kits. ordered them last week sometime - I think. Hoping they will drop through my door any day now - also think world of cross stitch is due out soon also ?
I am thinking of treating myself ! to a subscription to cross stitch collection - when there is a sub deal that I like - but I don't think I have ever seen a free kit with the mag ? is that correct- the mag is all you get ?0 -

Here's a little tale of a birthday girl and her love of cross stitch...
On the recomendation of someone on here we went to Bakewell and ate lovely lamb pies and bakewell tarts, and i 'popped' in the Xstitch shop. Well i thought i did, aparently i came out 30mins later!
Oh, I think I'm to blame for Bakewell. Sorry!I went up there with my Mum in early December. Sounds like you enjoyed yourself. Happy belated birthday, BTW.
I turned 30 last June & I was dreading it. Didn't want to ignore it though, so planned a trip to Center Parcs with some friends. It turned out to be a great week. Bittersweet because it was my first birthday without my Grandma, but I got through it. Need to have a think about what to do for this birthday now...I will post a piccie once I have laced up my stitching....oooh I can't wait. My poor friend will at last get her rather delayed Christmas present!!
OK, I need to ask because I can't figure this out. With lacing, how do you start the lacing bit? As in, how do you attach the thread to the material to start lacing? I've laced one thing before-a very long time ago!-and I can't remember what I did! Can't believe people don't want to be 30 - I 'practiced' for mine on my 29th I was so excited then on my actual birthday I was taken to Las Vegas and OH proposed at the top of the fake Eiffle Tower!!! ...Oh the memories!!!
I didn't want to turn 30 because in my mind by now I should be 'grown up' and well...I'm not! I don't have a job & I have no clue what I want to do with my life. Still don't, but yet I'm not bothered about turning 31. Actually, wait a minute...:eek::eek:
Your 30th birthday sounds lovely! I love Vegas and could've happily got married there.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

:jYay for Bakewell and for birthdays too (although mine is a bit more than yours 23rd spiral) Am 40+ next week and then we go away for a week staying in Bakewell for the whole of half term week. My olds live in chesterfield so they are going to come over and stay in the 'cottage' we have rented for the week.
Can't believe there are so many of us with Derbyshire links - have already warned dh that we may have to charity shop it in Buxton as well as booking me in the stitching shop for an hour or so - can't wait.
We have already agreed that I am not allowed to take school work for the week and dh has ordered some books for my birthday so I can take them away with us.
No stitching today but rang friends today and stitch and b**ch is on Friday evening. Am so looking forward to the weekend, my birthday and the holidays:beer:Mortgage £119,533 going down slowly
