ipod touch will not connect to our Zoom X6 router

Hello,

Please help!
Our Son has an ipod touch for Christmas, but it will not connect to our Zoom X6 router.
The router is working fine, as I am typing this on our laptop through it.

The password is correct for the router, but it still says Unable to Join.

I have searched google etc and found various forums/discussion, but cannot find an answer, or connect the ipod!

Thanks in advance, and Merry Christmas!

  • Have you got an access list set up on the router - you might have to add the ipod MAC address to it.

Dont think I have. I had trouble connecting a DS before and had the settings emailed to me by Zoom.

    Thanks for your quick reply!
  • Not sure about your router but sometimes there is a button that you press when first connecting a device - its a security feature. Alternatively you can access the access list through the routers web interface.

I dont think my router has this, never used it for connecting the Wii or the DS before.
  • I'm experiencing exactly the same problems with exactly the same kit. Ipod touch sees the router, but won't connect to internet through it ..it's driving me nuts.. My sons new DSI XL connects easily enough. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're on the brink of returning the IPod to the store.

I read on another thread that you get 90 days free support from apple. I tried calling them last night, but they are closed (obviously!). I have emailed them, but again, waiting for a reply.

Just come online to try searching for an answer again!
  • I dont understand it - I never have problems connecting my Ipod to various routers.

A couple of things I have found to cause trouble in the past - might be worth looking at:

    1) have you got a neighbour with a network on the same channel as yours?
    2) are there strange characters in the router password (spaces etc)
    3) Is the password case sensitive - have you put in the right case (check the caps lock on the ipod)
    4) try shutting the ipod down and re-starting.

    Hello,

Thanks for your reply, but tried all of those already last night.
The password is correct, and the name of my router is not the same as a neighbours.
It recognises the password, just wont actually connect.
When I did a google search last night there were loads of people with the same problem, but I could not find a solution that worked.
Ipod just says "unable to join"!

Are you going through Settings (on the iPod) to join the network or waiting for the prompt when using the App? Some routers I've tried to connect to with my iPhone will only connect if I go through the full Settings/Network path.
  • Have you tried seeing if it will connect if you disable the wireless security on your router.
