Good-so please tell us what he did to fix it?
Errr...! I've no idea, you know. I just made him a cuppa with a big peice of Christmas cake and he fiddled with the Humax for a few minutes and then tried it and it was fine.

Thanks for all your help though.

The 9200T and 9300T have the same basic software, just a bigger HDD and HDMI upscaling etc; so they will have the same software issues.

I like the box far better than the Thompson Topup-TV box I had before, but there are a few little niggles like the slow EPG & the above issue, but I love being able to record 2 channels and still watch a third on the same MUX.

We have two 9300T boxes in my house and thinking about a third Humax box, but want a Freeview HD recorder. So I really rate Humax, it's worth the effect to set it up right.
The Humax 9200/9300 CPU's are not powerful enough to do what is required of them. Humax tried to do too much without proper hardware such as USB controller. Try to transfer a file over USB, record two channels and access practically any function at the same time and it can lock up or if not then it responds in an ice age. I would never again touch the EPG while trying to do all of this at the same time or risk a total lock up and file system corruption.

But it has a very good tuner which copes with very varied signal levels, especially with high Analogue signals at the same time without encountering problems.
  • Do a Manual re-tune this may well sort it out

Very true, when I bought it and saw the USB socket I thought great I can download programs to my Laptop or iPod, but sadly it's a dead socket with no sign it will ever be anything but that.

I have wired it into my stereo so listen to digital radio most nights on my 20yr old Denon hifi...

So there are a lot of thing to like about it, but it's not perfect.

It works on my 9200 but it's very slow and takes forever for large Mpeg2 files. Max of about 1.5MB/s but usually closer to 1MB/s. It's meant to be USB2 but it's not high speed USB2 and closer to USB 1.1.

It's very sensitive to long cables and PC USB controller chipsets, nForce 2 being the best in my experience which usually managed to transfer 2GB files with no errors over a 5 meter USB cable. I didn't have so much luck with a newer Intel chipset motherboard which generated quite a few errors. Transmission errors are the big problem because the Humax doesn't have a dedicated USB controller, it's all done by the CPU and error correction doesn't happen like with regular USB transfers on most other devices.

The officlal software is hopeless and I could never get it to download anything because it would always stop after a very short time with an error. But it can be got working with third party software which checks for errors and re-transmits the whole file to extract the corrupted data to correct the transmission errors. I use HumaxMediaController v1.05 command line utility to transfer files but it's quite old and might not support the 9300. There was a GUI version which didn't work quite as well as the command line tool. The driver might be the biggest problem, especially with win 7. It used a generic USB driver (modified?) which is hosted on sourceforge. The forum where the software began doesn't seem to exist any more.

Humax has some software to transfer the files I believe but it was useless on my 9200T so I had to use a third party application to do it.

After you have the file on your PC, the rest is fairly easy but getting off the Humax is the first step. Try the links I have provided to see if they work on the 9300. It's going to be a process of trial and error as I can find no info on google about it.
