I find christmas to be quite a depressing time and would rather be at work to take my mind off things and keep me busy chatting to customers etc. maybe next time think before you post?
Sorry, I didn't mean to cause offence. I was just trying to say that most people would rather have the day off than come in just to earn a bit more money. I've worked on Christmas day myself in the past.0 -
It is generally assumed that staff who work in pubs, restaurants are getting at least double/ pay and big tips - And rightly so for working on what is traditionally a national holiday in respect of families. I wonder if those serving Big Macs today will be adequately rewarded?
I forgot to wish everyone a Merry Christmas - especially to all the moaning sods on this Praise and vent section !
Double? what skanky employers, I used to get x4 for the week before and after christmas
Stuff christmas when you earn 2 months wages in a couple of weeks :rotfl:
If mcdonalds paid the same id flip burgers all christmas with a big smile on my face0 -

Wish it had been open here today since I had booked a restaurant, which when we turned up at 4pm, had run out of turkey.
Went as a special treat since I am due to drop sprog no2 any day now, they allowed us to order drinks and order before informing us that there was no turkey left. Leaving us with the option of swordfish (not allowed in pregnancy), scallops (ditto), nutroast (ditto) or Chicken kebab.
We politely asked for the bill for the drinks and informed them that we wouldn't be staying.....They weren't too happy but I wasn't prepared to pay Christmas prices for chicken kebab which isn't something I would choose normally.
We had burgers at home since it was all I had in the freezer!! DD had chicken nuggets so we may as well have been in MaccyD's!0 -
People volunteer to work Xmas Day for various reasons - e.g. financial, they don't celebrate it for religious reasons, or because it's just not a very fun day for them (no family/bad memories etc) and they want to keep busy. Certainly not because they're saddos! Hell, if the place I worked was open on Xmas Day and they were offering me decent extra pay I'd definitely do it!
Plus think of all the people working in vital roles, paramedics, NHS, firemen etc... far from saddos!0 -
McDonalds must have some right saddos working for them if they'd rather be spending Christmas flipping burgers for minimum wage instead of with friends and family getting drunk and being merry.
I volunteered to work Christmas Day because someone has to be here in my workplace 24/7. I don't have children like many of my workmates. Thus I thought it would be a kind thing to allow my workmates Christmas with their young families. No extra pay involved. Didn't realise I'd be branded a "saddo" for it though!delerium wrote:Wish it had been open here today since I had booked a restaurant ...
No way!

Everyone feeling sorry for poor shop staff working the holidays, what about the servicemen in Afghanistan who have no choice,or the firemen, policemen, medical staff...?
Well they do have a choice, they choose to apply for these jobs after all knowing they may have to work unsociable hours. No one is forced to do a job.
If you don't want to work Christmas day choose a job where it wouldn't happen.0
