You said getting people in to work on Christmas day is pretty extreme. Which I doubt would occur to you if you were muslim, just another day and all that.0 -
I'm not keen on working Christmas day, but I wouldn't be more than slightly disapointed if I had too. I don't have kids and the family don't do Christmas stuff, so if I can earn a bit, why not.
There are so many people who don't celebrate Xmas for a variety of reasons, so they can probably get staff to staff it, particularly as they will probably only need a handful of staff.0 -
The East End of London has a lot of people who's religions don't involve celebrating at Christmas. The man without a signature.0

At least the lorry drivers who are delivering hot shots will have somewhere to stop for hot drinks and toilets0

Lots of pubs and restaurants open on Christmas day - I would actually love to go out for Christmas dinner but my family like to be at home. I don't really see why it is so different for McDs as opposed to a fancy restaurant...except the kids are far more likely to actually eat their McDs!0

i dont see a problem, for lots of reasons ie
-lots of people dont celebrate christmas
-people are glad for the extra income
-travellers, paramedics lorry drivers etc would be grateful for the use of toilets and a warm drink
much ado about nothing, is my opinion over the original post0 -
Everyone feeling sorry for poor shop staff working the holidays, what about the servicemen in Afghanistan who have no choice,or the firemen, policemen, medical staff...?
People need medical care as they cannot predict or delay needing it. People do not need a Big Mac and can go before/after Christmas Day as they know about it in advance.0 -
I don't celebrate Christmas but I don't go to McDonalds either.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

No-one 'needs' to eat out at anytime but if there's a demand for the 'service' then not a problem. There's absolutely no difference between a Mcdonalds opening on christmas day and any one of thousands of restaurants/hotels that have opened for years apart from the usual anti Mcdonalds snobbery. People can eat in posh places and no-one says anything. If someone chooses Mcdonalds then it's somehow wrong? I just don't get it.0
