Amazing iphone deal via mobilephonechecker.co.uk?!

Hi guys,

If you search the site mobilephonechecker.co.uk for the best iphone deals you come across this Vodafone deal at the top of the list:

My plan
24 months, 600 minutes, Unlimited texts , 500 MB mobile internet data

with FREE iphone. This links you to the vodafone shop with the deal. If you go on the vodafone shop without the deal, the price of the same package is over £200. I called Vodafone to check this deal as it seemed too good to be true, but they verified it - they must have some deal with the website I guess.

So that's to let you guys know, but I have a question for myself too -

My current contract runs on Jan 23. Should I snap up this deal now, or wait closer to my contract end and hope the deal hasn't disappeared?

  • So are you going to tell us how much it is a month or are you going to keep us all in suspense until the 23 January?? :rudolf: :santa2:

Oops sorry - forgot to mention that in my excitement. £35 a month (no phone charge) for 24 months.

Seems crazy that they'd be able to offer a dealthat much better than the regular one. I tried to see if o2 would match it before cancelling my current contract but they said no chance.

Still in two minds about whether to take it now or just pay off my last month on o2 and grab it now...

Not much data allowance for your £35,three has a better deal if you get there signal for the same price other than the £65 for the phone which would work out an extra £2.70pm taking that into account.

    2000 cross network mins
    5000 texts
    5000 3 to 3 mins
    all you can eat data....unlimited.

Hmm- that might be a better deal for some people but the vodafone package gives me all i need and as you say works out a bit cheaper per month. Still a good alternative... If you trust the 3 signal...

Tesco works out a lot cheaper over the same period, £709 compared to £840 above. Only 250 inclusive minutes but 1GB data plus you can piggyback on BTopenzone where available.

  • True, but for me (and I'm guessing for many people) 250 minutes a month is no way near enough...

    whereas 500mb for a 3g phone is?

Alternatively Tesco do 750 mins for £35 a month on a 12 month contract + £229, so only £649. To compare like with like add another 12 months on £10 a month tariff, still only £769 in total, £71 cheaper than your suggestion.

Are you linked to the website you mention?

  • No I'm not linked to the website. I thought it was a great deal and has a question so posted.

£10 a month for the second year- surely that doesn't get 750 mins a month? Anyway it's a completely different type of deal. You can't compare a zero up front payment with a 220 quid up front payment. There are of course loads of good deals around - you've got to make a personal decision on what you want to pay upfront and look for deals in that ballpark.

I considered tesco at first but my online searching gave me the impression tesco get really bad feedback on call quality, customer service etc.

You could buy an iPhone direct from Apple and select a sim only deal for £10 (T-Mobile, Tesco etc,) and the overall cost would be the same. Plus it could be reduced with buying a 16GB iPhone, using Quidco, cashback credit card / zero % credit card and a deal like the £7.50 T-Mobile deal.

This also gives you the freedom to change phones if something better comes along or if you loose your job and you can't afford £35 per month or if you move house and the signal is poor in you're new area; all of which we read almost daily on here then you're not stuck on a contract for 2 years.

So granted it's a way of getting an iPhone for no upfront cost, but it's not the cheapest way of owning (running, overall cost, stress etc) an iPhone.
  • Merry Christmas all!

I see your point Chorlie, but it's not comparing like for like.

Say you wanted a minimum of 600 mins a month, then the only tesco sim only option is the £20 a month. Over 24 months the extra £15 a month for Vodafone would add up to £360, which is around £200 less than what you could resell a new iphone for on Amazon or Ebay.

So I think my deal is the best one for someone looking for substantial minutes, >600, and someone who uses 3g out and about but home wi-fi for larger downloads... someone like like me!

    Bring on the goose.
