Cheapest LEGAL Photoshop?

  • If you work in image manipulation then either get your employer to pay for it or if you are self employed just buy it... i am sure it will pay for itself in no time

What is it Photoshop can do that GIMP can't do?

    About a million things.

Content-Aware Fill - Remove any image detail or object and watch as Content-Aware Fill magically fills in the space left behind. This breakthrough technology matches lighting, tone, and noise so it looks as if the removed content never existed.

Superior HDR imaging - Create photo-realistic or surreal HDR images with unprecedented speed, control, and accuracy. Get better-than-ever results thanks to automatic ghost removal and greater control with tone mapping and adjustments, and even give single-exposure photos the look of HDR.

Puppet Warp - Precisely reposition any image element to create a more visually appealing photo. For example, easily straighten an arm that's bent at an awkward angle.

Automatic lens correction - Save time with automatic correction of lens distortions, chromatic aberration, and vignetting. Photoshop CS5 uses an image file's EXIF data to make precise adjustments based on the type of camera and lens you used.

    From http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/photoshop/whatsnew/index.html?segment=photography

And those are just a few of new features in the latest version of Photoshop - there are thousands of things that GIMP can't do, and plenty of tools it doesn’t have – for example, it’s extremely limited in text effects. I use both, and I find GIMP is extremely frustrating & lacking in some respects, although obviously it's great considering it's free.

Asking 'what can't GIMP do compared to Photoshop?' is like asking 'what's the difference between a rabbit hole and the grand canyon?'

I bought a MAC version via my student son from software4students for about £160 I think a PC version is about the same. Any Uni students in your family that could help you out?

    See post #4;)

However, I've been told by someone who uses CS5 for video editing, so I bow to his knowledge, that the software4students versions are *lite* versions.
    Move along, nothing to see.

So Adobe are "thieves" who "fleece" their customers.

Must be a right mug to buy their stuff then:cool:

Yes, I'd call charging about half again as much to customers in the UK as they charge those in the US fleecing us.

    What would you call it?

Sometimes I wonder why certain commenters bother coming to a site called Money Saving Expert.

Been complaints in the computer media for years regarding the pricing difference . Adobe take no notice at all thats the market price and they sell enough not need to drop the price .

Software for students advertise the full cs5 photoshop extended not a cut down version . Extended that's the version slightly more expensive than standard CS5 photoshop . £162.95 providing buyer meets the requirements .

Non students seen it via google £320 amazon etc

Stating the obvious (i.e supply and demand) does not disqualify a person from being money saving;)
