What is it Photoshop can do that GIMP can't do?

This is neither the time or place to argue the toss about their respective merits. Suffice it to say that having worked with image manipulation since 1987 (before Photoshop was hatched), having used a lot of different software programmes (including GIMP), Photoshop is the weapon of choice.

I'm just trying to get it at a sane price - not start a geek fight.

You haven't got a mate in the states who can download it and forward it to you?

Err, I answered my own question before you got your knickers in a twist.

Naturally being the international expert you are on graphics programs, and having Photoshop as your 'weapon of choice' you'll already know why it costs what it costs and accept that - not gawk at it.

Please be clear, if you come here looking for it 'on the cheap' - being it is a money saving forum - you are likely to get a wide range of replies including 'why use it when there is a free alternative that is just as good?' I'm sorry that clearly offends you and you are inflexible on your choice and skills to adapt to save money. I hope you can afford a copy of your 'weapon of choice' in due course.

Here, have this copy of Photoshop for Christmas on me, and take a chill pill....

Yes, I think that's what I'll probably have to do - thanks for the comment.

Hilarious! Still it's a great self-portrait. Done with GIMP, was it?

GIMP is in constant development, 3.0 is pending, and will reduce the featureset gap.

I would say, if you're a graphic designer, or earning money from extensive photoshop work, you should check the licensing details for the version you get - but that's why it's so expensive, because people earn money using it. It's the Avid of the stills world. But that's also why The GIMP and so on spring up in opposition, in the same way as Lightworks is being open sourced to challenge Avid.

So Adobe are "thieves" who "fleece" their customers.

Must be a right mug to buy their stuff then:cool:
