Don't be too disheartened Jody.
Stick with it - it might only be 1lb this week but could be 5lbs next week, weightloss quite often seems to be in fits and starts.
Think the equation is something like you have to eat 3,500 calories less a week than you burn to lose 1lb, it's worth checking to make sure you have your intake/exercise balanced. Don't forget that's not just burned off on exercise before the figure makes you go eek! Even sleeping burns some calories!
Are you making sure to eat breakfast? It's really important to kickstart your metabolism and helps you lose weight.
Boiled eggs are great and cheap! Me and the OH have 1 and a half each in the morning (that way the 15 pack lasts a week!) and I'm not hungry until lunchtime.
Keep going! You CAN do this! xxxDebt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Oh and a common thing to forget is the calories in drinks - they can add up a lot without you realising.
Lots of water is good and not necessarily diet drinks. I'd read that too much artificial sweetener can make you put weight on, my brother didn't believe me (he drinks lots of diet coke) tried giving it up for a week and lost 5lbs!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Thanks hun.
I've made sure I've included all my cups of tea as well so I've tried to be as honest as possible. Someone on the Wii thread has suggested I am not eating enough...perhaps the whole starvation mode thing? I haven't felt hungry at all, I just have been eating little and often and a making better choices.
Everyone at work is doing their best to console me, I know I need to keep it up but it's so disheartening!!!!!!

I find that fruits are not really good to snack on, becauce they contain lots of sugar. Try to take with you some carrot, coergette, cucumber or pepper sticks and snack on them with a bit of hoummous. Don't be disheartened, it takes time for the weight loss to kick in, also if you are doing exercises than you will build up muscles which weigh more than fat. Carry on, and as beccie said you might lose 5lbs next week.0

Another thing as well - it can be easier to not be to drastic all at once, to lose weight and keep it off you have to change your whole lifestyle. So look at making a few small changes each week and making those become habits - can be easier than seeing it as being on a diet and feeling deprived all the time xDebt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0

Aww sorry to hear that you didn't do as well as you hoped Jody.
Have you taken your body measurements, remember that you may have only lost 1lb but you may have lost 2 inches off your waist/bum/thighs/bust...
It's an idea that you should take the measurements every week on top of the weigh in, then you can really track your progress.
Also, remember if you have been working out lots then you may have turned some fat in to muscle and I'm pretty sure that muscle weighs more than fat! So you may not have lost much but might have turned fat into muscle and look so much better for it!

Hi Jody
I know its hard not to be disheartened when you have tried so hard all week.
1lb is a start though, and like Pennies said taking your measurements each week is a great way of keeping track and muscle really does weigh more!
Drink lots of water, that always flushes the system through and can make a surprising difference xLBM Aug 09: £18,650.47 - Current: £12,854.93 (£5946.79)

It is hard work but i know you will do it - we both have good reasons too!! xOrange Fairy

Hi Jody,
Sorry to hear you're feeling disenheartenedRemember it's in the right direction, even if it's not as much as you would have liked to see come off. Keep it up, and fingers crossed for a better result next week. Sometimes these things take a while to come through. Last year when I started running, I didn't see any weighloss at all for ages and then it suddenly kicked in and I lost about 10 pounds in a month.
Something else to consider - I know the Wii is good for strength and toning exercises, but I don't know how good it is for aerobic exercises, which is what you really need for weight loss. Is it getting you properly out of breath and with a raised heartrate?
To burn fat effectively you need to get to between 60 and 70% of your max heartrate (115-134bpm for a 28yr old) and stay there for 20-30 minutes. To improve your aerobic fitness you need to be above 70% of max heartrate. Someone else may correct me on this, but that's my understanding, so I'd suggest a brisk walk around the block for 10 mins before starting a Wii workout, which should get you into that zone.Little monkey born November 2012:jFroglet due March 20160 -
Thanks girls
I don't mean to whinge but I really though it would be in excess of 2lb but perhaps I've just tried to do too much all at once with the exercise and calorie drop? Someone on the Gym V Wii thread gave me a link to a BMI site where it tells you about your metabollic rate. On there it reckons to maintain my current rate I would need to eat about 2,300 calories, to lose weight I should look to eat around 500 calories less and do a little more exercise. It does say that you shouldn't drop more than 1,000 calories below your maintenance level or you could find yourself not losing at all so that kinda makes sense.
The EA Sports Active is really hard Jules, I am always sweating and wheezing at the end of it (probably more than if I was in the gym) although the workout is not that long so I've been doing super advanced boxing on WF+. Maybe I am looking at it the wrong way but given my previous food habits and absolute lack of exercise I would have thought even a small amount of change would have seen better results than this.
OH text me to say that he was very proud of me for sticking to the exercise, even if I hadn't lost the weight I wanted. Have ordered a fabric tape measure too so I can start tracking any inch loss.
