It would be better if you could request a size instead of them allocating it. I bought the leg of lamb which fed 6-10 and the price varied accordingly but if you are catering for 10 then obviously you're going to want a larger one as opposed to someone who is just catering for 6. I was lucky that mine was the right size.

I got my turkey from the local farmers market on the tuesday before xmas and due to a lack of buyers and a surplus of turkeys they were giving them away free, picked up 3 birds all over 10kg each (free range) total price £0:D

I did have to gut them though as they weren't oven ready:cool:

I did ask what prices they were charging before giving them away and was told about a £1 a lb.

As this is a money saving forum I strongly suggest checking these places out next xmas if you have a market near you, and you're prepared to get the bird oven ready yourself;)
