I was really impressed with the service I received at M and S today. My Turkey was slightly bigger than I had ordered, I was taken to the front of the queue to pay and also paid for a few other things as well at the same time. I had my own hessian bag but the turkey was placed in two plastic bags free of charge and they always put the chicken in a free bag there too. I think it's food safety.
I hope it's good I've bought a free range bronze and have never paid so much for a turkey in my life! I usually get a turkey butterfly from the butchers but last year they came from Hungary I think and you don't know what's what regarding welfare etc. Here dead we lie because we did not choose

My M&S charge for all bags if you go to a simply food... clothing is a bit different..
Thing is Aldi Lidi, and a few other grocery stores do too...
you should be encouraged to bring your own bags when you grocery shop.
Next thing yoru going to say is 1.00 to borrow a trolley is too much and how dare they!
No one made you go buy an 80.00 birthday cake (btw that is really expensive) but you went there for the quality etc. so don't begrudge them for charging for bags that most people throw out and harm the environment.0 -

I absolutely do begrudge them charging for carrier bags. I may choose to spend lots of money there and sometime I forget my reusable bags or I go to the shop on impulse. None of the other major supermarkets hit you for a charge when you forget. I think the more you spend the more they should provide you with bags FOC. Nobody can seem to answer why they only charge in the food department but not in the clothing department. If it was all about the environment they would charge for them all the time in every department.0 -
They charge for carrier bags in Ireland and since they introduced that policy their us has reduced dramatically. I believe that is M and S's intent. It is annoying when you shop on impulse and don't have your own bag but it's not that bad. Here dead we lie because we did not choose

Because all the fuss in the press was about supermarket carrier bags. They only do it in the food departments because that is all the press is interested in.
They don't actually care about the environment, they just don't want bad press by being singled out as not doing anything to reduce carrier bag use in their "supermarket".0 -
