I'm fed up with my bank contacting me

Good afternoon everyone, hope you're all safe and well?
I'm hoping someone can give me some advice because I'm really, really fed up with my bank calling me all the time and sending me letters inviting me to open Savings Accounts and "upgrade" my Current Account. RBS has contacted me Monday, Tuesday and again today this week inviting me into my local branch to discuss how to make the best of my financial situation as they say I have a "very high balance" in my Current Account that isn't doing anything for me and that I should invest it in 3-year bonds etc. I'm not prepared to invest my money with this bank because I've had a few bad experiences with them and they've wasted my time previously by calling me into branch and then being unable to open the accounts I wanted at the time. I also predict that interest rates will rise again before too long and RBS rates are hardly spectacular at the best of times. Other than that I'm not prepared to lock up my money as I've since moved most of my banking facilities elsewhere to Barclays and though I keep around £8,500 in my RBS account I do intend to move this over to Barclays at some point and close my RBS "Key Account" as it's very seldom used now. Is there any way I can politely discourage them from calling me repeatedly? I've told the lady in branch several times that I don't want to be contacted but still they contact me, grrr. Thanks everyone and have a lovely Christmas

Theres a trigger (was about £10k) where they notice your either laundering money or quite well off so they either tell the police or try to sell you products with massive commission or overrides.
You've already done one of my suggestions and that’s move your business. Next step I would do would be to fill in the feedback form on contact us part of RBS's website asking to opt out of cold selling calls and to have confirmation.
When they call you again in a months time, you use the web form again to complain and demand compo, threatening with the FOS.

I'd move the cash, and close the account, that should stop them. If youve already moved everything else, you may aswell.

Yes, I've since opened a full Barclays Current Account with absolutely no problems whatsoever. This is something RBS would, for some reason never give me and I now also have a Barclays Credit card, no complaints with this bank so far and they seem so much less inclined to pester you repeatedly and try and sell you things you neither want nor particularly need. I notice that Cing raised a point about there being a "trigger"? could someone possibly tell me more about this? I'm not laundering money and have simply lived within my means, would hate to think people are keeping tabs on me as that seems like an intrusion of privacy in my books. I'll give RBS one final chance to leave me alone should they contact me again but after that? I'll be taking my complain further, it's just not right to keep pestering someone who's told them repeatedly that he doesn't want to be bothered, Have a good evening everyone0 -

I disagree. I think there is certainly truth in it.
I can't take large amounts of money out of my account (HSBC) without telling them what I'm doing with it.
I tell them it's going on hookers 'n drugs.0 -

They are giving you VERY good advice there! You say you have £8500 in a current account? WHY???
Get it into a savings account quickly. You can get at least 2.75% without tying it up.
Keeping it in a current account is NOT MSE.0 -
You should ask RBS to remove any marketing from your account. Stops letters phone calls and emails. Worked with my account with Halifax and bank of ireland0

If they refuse to act on that request they are breaking a range of laws and regulations.
They will certainly allow you to opt out of marketing by post or phone or email. They may also have the facility to mark your accounts for no marketing in branch too.
Ask - give them a couple of weeks to update their records - and enjoy the peace thereafter.0 -
I had a similar experience, I spent 10 minutes making the caller wish he had not got out ouf bed and then demanded to speak to the superviser and made my feelings known.
Highlights of the conversation included:
I told the original caller that I was unimpressed wih their role in the Cadburies takeover and the bonus to the ex idiot chairman. He tried to say that he was just an employee and could not influence anything. I told him that he had called me inspite of me asking not to be contacted and he would just have to take it.
The supervisor asked whether I considered it bad service to call to tell me about products. I said yes. I was assured that I was now on the no contact list. To be fair, so far they have not called me since.
In addition, I didn't have the misfortune with them that I had with Halifax where someone rang up and demanded security questions be answered in order to comply with my request not to call. In that instance, I had to resort to getting a reputation for being rude and obnoxious so that they would prefer a job in the sewage farm to ringing me.
I had asked them nicely previously to put me on the no marketing.
To be fair now that I have had to move due to being sold to Santander, I do appreciate how good RBS service actually was. For example the I could ring my branch up directly without having to use unduly expensive phone numbers.0 -
