Thought I'd get off my backside and do something. Made use of the sweet chestnuts mum gave me last week to make sweet chestnut jam out of the river cottage preserves book. Only

Quite easy to make - tasted a little bit - tastes nice and sweet.

Using it for meringue and cream desserts (not now!) and if its nice I'll make a full lot for next Christmas

Hello all and Happy 2011 !!:j

Lets hope this year is a good one...........well, late night, late getting up this morning so all behind myself today. It'll take me a while to figure out what day it is................lol:rotfl:

Started on this years Journal with the usual new years promises to myself that I may or may not keep............though last year some I did manage-sort of...............lol

Been looking around at bits and pieces left from last year..........three pieces of hand made soap that'll do for sons birthday in April, various pegs -he's already had some so not sure where they'lll end up.
One resolution is to stop making stuff when I've reached my quota and not get carried away every time I see a new idea..........then I won't get left with bits and bobs like this.

Well, today I'd best look on line for a mobile phone for our lads birthday on 12th.
Has anyone taken decorations down yet ? OH always sticks to 12th night by which time I'm fed up with them................lol

Take care and have a good day:)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

Hi everyone and Happy New Year :starmod::staradmin

Re a post I noticed about Superdrug and coin chocs being in date, in my store they were Sept 2011 so would be ok for birthdays not Christmas.

Mary, I have to ask about your post - you mentioned 'pegs' and that your son already has some? Do you mean ones that you decorated and are used for clipping papers?

On that topic, one of the most useful items I've ever made for myself was a rigid clip that has a little square on it that you can attach a hand made design. I cross stitched mine. You can buy the clips in shops selling embroidery crafts.

I use mine to clip all my special occasions notes.

    :)

I've used bits and bobs for mini hampers, adding ribbons for coordination-my 'kids' are now used to random presents but all useful(ish)

Hi Mary - Happy new year to you. I'm going to take our trimmings etc down tomorrow, and leave the cards up untl 12th night. Whan is it by the way, I can never remember. Is it the 5th or the 6th?

My Marks and spencer order came yesterday too Mum2one - funnily enought, DD wears a 11-12, so I bought two pairs of pj's in the next size up 13-14. No-one will see when she's in bed, and her size had sold out. Opened the packet and they definatley won't fit her until she's 13. Good job they were a bargain. She's always been big for her age but she's evening out - she stayed the same shoe size for over two years.

I'm putting Christmas away today :( excited for the year ahead as we finally get married and have our first baby on the way! I've found out a storage box this morning and put all left over wrapping paper / cards / bows ribbons etc all ready for the loft later - can't believe how much is left to be honest! I have to say I'm terrible for buying all new and just chucking things - so careless! But not anymore :) xxx

Just had some nice comments from mum about the biscotti I gave her for Christmas - she said it was lovely, and it was, as I had 2 pieces left over

Very easy to make as part of a coffee drinker's hamper or kitchen hamper

Another thing I'll be remaking next year I think as part of the HM preserves and food gifts hampers

Angela.............the pegs I've got are just wooden clothes pegs I covered and stuck magnet on couple of them on the back -The others were just covered with paper -theres 6 altogether.........without delving into spare room upstairs...............lol I am stupid.........could have given some to girl we used to foster who turned up after christmas. Gave her the earrings I'd got her..forgot about anything else.

elysia -think its 6th when decs are supposed to come down. I want to get my cleaner to come once we've done them but her best day for me is that very day !! I can manage to get the bits off the dresser but its taking the tree down and stuff like that............my back at the minute just won't allow me and I've told OH he's not to do anything.......so maybe cleaner will give me a hand. Mind you its only a good luck thing........not that its made that much difference to us...............lol:rotfl:

Just ordered phone for our lads birthday from Tescos.........no point in spending a lot.......her broke the last two.................:( so he can have money and get some dvds

  • Hello all and Happy New Year!

Hope it's okay to join the thread! Have watched with interest over the past few weeks. Need to have a very thrifty year as getting married in 2012 (can finally say I'm getting married next year!) and have the possibility of redundancy looming over me. Have made a cracking start on presents in the sales-have pretty much all birthdays sorted and we have decided on secret santa for christmas for everyone except the kids so that should help.

Hope 2011 is healthy and happy for everyone!
