Susan - Cider apple butter is like a very fruity spread to go on hot buttered toast, crumpets or muffins. It is a golden cider colour and a thickish spread like consistency. Not jam or jelly consistency. It's the first time I've made this, had a little taste off the spoon when the jars were filled and it tasted pretty good!

All ready for winter time with this and some to go in the food hampers

    Hi girls

    That apple butter sounds lovely.

Mum accidentally made fruit butter and was mortified when it wouldn't come out of the jars. It often happens if you cook jam for too long, if it happens to you in that way, don't pour it into normal jars or you will be in problems as it can set very solid.

Am wondering whether anyone can give me some crafty inspiration...
I bought some little glass bowls, only about 3-4" diameter (the sort you would put sauces/dips etc in) as they were reduced to clear in Tesco from £1.50 to 15p!! Couldn't think what to do with them, but have the aim of trying to make them into some sort of present for someone!

Maybe you could make Pots of Gold? A scratchcard or lottery ticket and some gold choccy coins and other gold coloured sweets.

    Morning all

Wasw out again yesterday, did a bit more of my Dad's wallpaper, it is getting there. There are some bits I cant reach so I am hoping my sister might be able to do those bits next time she goes.

I have made up the two charm bracelets. The one for YD I am going to get her some more personalised charms nearer Christmas when I have some more money available but I have filled it up for now with some other charms that came.

The photos are a bit dark as the flash didnt go off but you can see them.

    The first one is ED's

I don't think so as I have found a few crab apple recipes in my preserving books. I'm off to have a look on the other recipe websites for some more ideas as I have approx 2kg to use up

Last lot of bramleys (1kg) currently cooking into a rather lovely smelling chutney. Should get about 4 jars out of that and will come in at a very low cost

    1kg bramleys (free)
    225g onions 25p
various spices already have - estimate approx 30p
    malt vinegar 10p
    340g sugar 35p
    sultanas 20p

Total cost = £1.15p plus cost of jars and lids
