I finally bought the Acer Aspire D260A. It is a present for a young student. It came in pink and lilac, with a slip and optical mouse for £230. Not my colour but I am sure the young lady will love it. It is £10 cheaper in black or silver.

Thanks for the replies which have helped me and am sure will have helped others who have been unsure on which one to buy.

    Merry Christmas,

Not gonna be able to do much with 1GB ram remember thats shared with graphics and sound. So its going to be poor performance.

Depends what you mean by poor performance?

Remember this is a netbook so ideal for browsing, downloading, writing the odd document, playing music, watching youtube/iplayer etc, playing older games/flash games and I can do all that on an original NC10 with 1Gb.

you can upgrade but the spec of the netbook (as it is ) probably won't cope well with any upgrade//

If it had all the features of Win 7 Ultimate, it wouldn't be called 'Starter'. :)

However there are ways to change the desktop background, but they use 3rd party software.

I cannot comment on them but try Google for 'change background in win 7 starter' or similar.
    Move along, nothing to see.

I found out using this you can change the colour of the back ground

    Contol Panel/appearnce//display/change color scheme/ windows classic/advanced

I tried O but it showed the picture until the icon came up in the left hand side of the screen then it just went back to the default blue background. I couldnt get it to worked properly !

Windows 7 without Aero is horrible. You get thick blue window borders that you can't even change the colour of.

Can you change the background picture by right-clicking on a file and doing "Set as desktop background"?
