Sorry I maybe should have elaborated on the religion issue........
School have taught him that lots of the communities in Africa where some of the poorest people are Christian (just like him) he knows there are lots of different religions about in the world and not all believe in father christmas but as some of these people believe in the same things that he does then why are they not treated in the same way he is if that makes sense.
We have sorted throught his things and he has taken some of his things to the charity shop. Just before they broke up for school holidays his class at school were saving to donate to CAFOD to purchase a pair of pigs to support a family in the third world DS donated his pocket money to the cause so this is all incredibly relevant to him atm.
His school decided against the idea of shoeboxes this year and went for bags of items instead which were all going over in a truck and we did that at the end of November too.
thats why I chose the sending money idea to santa idea to go with rather than the religion one.

if he's old enough to be thinking like this he's old enough not to be lied to about it. one way might be to ask him what he thinks the answer is.
if you can't manage to go the whole hog of fessing up maybe you can just say you don't know. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -
You can't tell a 7 year old that believes in Santa the truth
Go with saying you send the money to him. Good plan!
It's lovely that he has thought about the other children.SAHM Mummy tods (born Oct 2007) and dd (born June 2010)0 -

how do you know he really believes in santa? i remember pretending to believe in santa way longer than i actually believed in santa just because i felt my parents would be upset if i admitted i didn't anymore. i certainly didn't believe in santa at 7.Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Totally appreciate where you're coming from but I'm just not telling him yet he's got the rest of his life to know "the truth" for now I'm just happy that he can enjoy the innocence of it all and still believe in the magic of santa.
I am proud that he thinks the way he does I think its really sweet of him and generally speaking he can be really really thoughtful and mindful of others something I have instilled in him from being very young, but I don't think that means he should know the full and detailed answer to the question either kids grow up far too quickly to start with I'm in no rush to push him along that road.

I believed in Santa till I was 18.
My parents and I had a deal - if I kept believing, the presents kept appearing.
Never quite worked out how he got past the gas fire though :-)A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

I haven't asked him directly whether he does or not but he still wants to see him at the local shopping centre and he has written to him and he has also told me I must get carrots for the reindeer and some nice cookies for santa when I do my food shopping later so all things considered I think he does although I am aware that "the truth" will be revealed to him possibly quite soon by someone.:j:love: Getting married to the man of my dreams 5th November 2011:j

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I was about 8 when we switched from a coal fire to gas and completely distraught by how Santa would get in now............ until dad produced the big magic key that we had to hang on the front door to allow him in lol.
Ah bless I fell for that hook line and sinker too, I was late when I discovered the truth about 10 I think I was and I still remember being devastated when they told me:o

Sweet of your little boy to worry about other children.
I'd just plead ignorance. I don't know how/why Santa arranges things, it's one of his mysteries. The more you try to explain something like this, the more knots you'll tie yourself in, in my experience with kids.Don't destroy the magic of believing...
My son was very upset by his present from Santa when he was 4 and got very dissolutioned with the whole idea, thanks to ToysRuS screwing up big time (long story, never went near them again). He thought Santa was punishing him so I had to tell him the truth, at 4. Very sad.
(Mind you he's visiting for Xmas this year and he's still getting a stocking bunged at the end of his bed, even though he's in his early 20s, lol, I know us mums are daft).Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j
