Flye Be/ Air france codeshare - luggage question

Hi everyone,:D
Wonder if you can help me as I can’t find details on the relevant company’s websites. I have booked a flight with Air France to Mexico next year departing from Manchester on a FlyBe codeshare flight and then from Paris to Mexico with Air France. The two companies have a codeshare agreement in place, and my booking (made through a third party) states one piece of hold luggage and that the Flybe to Paris is operated by Air France.
Basically, my question is, will I need to pay for my hold luggage when I get to Manchester airport? As it’s codeshare I shouldn’t have to, technically, but you never know with budget airlines.
Any thoughts words of wisdom would be most appreciated, as I am doing my usual panicking!
LL.

Is it an AF aircraft with a BE code?

  • It simply says flight BE XXXX (Operated by AIR FRANCE) so I guess not? It's an Airbus A321 if that helps?
  • Thank you. Didn't know about that. Just did and it is saying N/A for that portion of the flight. Slightly annoyed since the company I booked it through confirmed one piece of luggage.:(

What does it say if you put the booking in https://www.flybe.com/cam/initFindBooking.do

I investigated this question in April 2009 (so the rules may have changed since then). At that time, I found a statement on the Flybe website stating that passengers in your situation, when the initial leg was an international flight, were entitled to the same baggage allowance as for the long-haul sector. Anyway, I suggest that you turn up at check-in with a print-out of the statement from the agent who sold you the flight, and see is they give you the free baggage allowance.
  • That nothing is booked on. Just called the company I booked through who said it is booked on under their charges (I checked your link after speaking to them) and that I need to call FlyBe.

I have emailed the company to try to get it in writing. Do you mean the statement with my ticket on? They sent me an electronic ticket which confirms it in black and white. Thanks for your help by the way.
  • Called AF who have looked on their system and confirmed I have luggage as it's booked as one complete ticket. Panic over. Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm glad your panic is over. In case anyone in a similar situation finds this thread, booking the entire journey as just one ticket is not a complete solution. Flybe will only give you the same baggage allowance as for the long-haul sector if the sector they fly you on is an international journey.

An example to clarify this: I investigated a journey that would be Exeter to Manchester on Flybe, to connect with an Air France flight to Africa (via Paris). Since Exeter - Manchester is domestic, I would not have received the full baggage allowance.

The obvious solution would have been to begin the journey Exeter - Paris on Flybe, and then continue direct with Air France. That routing would have been fine, but is only offered on one ticket in Business class!

As I mentioned earlier, my research was in April 2009 so things may have improved since then, but somehow I doubt it!
