Ive been using mse for a while now and never had any problems with it, i also do a weekly scan with malwarebytes, maybe worth installing it and doing a scan to see if anything is hiding in the back ground somewhere

Same here. Apparently it's being released in stages according to the MSE forum:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/msestart/thread/06a6aeaa-d28a-42a6-85dd-f3eabe27df53
you will be notified when it is staged for you. It will not be available to everyone all at once, as is the normal pattern. Sit tight. If you *must* have the latest, then simply download the new version from the official page and install - it will remove v1 as part of the install.

Update
I turned on the PC this afternoon, and could not get on the internet (Mozilla or IE, I am running Vista). The MSE download has gone, vanished!
I now have "Windows security alert" messages constantly popping up, and a little icon on the bottom toolbar, which looks like a green shield with a white surround. It is asking me if I want to pay for the various worms, trojans and the like to be removed.
I did a resore in the afternoon, which is why I am able to post this plea for assistance.
Please help,
Andy0 -

I just lost the internet and could not open any programmes, and I am now getting loads of error messages.
Ever heard of "softwarear"?0 -
You need to start scanning with malwarebytes, all indications are you are infected.!!

When I tried to install/open Malwarebytes, the PC crashed, and restarted, so I think there is a bit of a battle going on here.0

Try safe mode with networking, or download on another pc
Failing that, google rogue antivirus for specifics on how to kill the process (look in task manager)
Where did you see softwarear?!!

This is the icon at the bottom toolbar, it has replaced MSE (which only lasted a day). I am getting alerts, but do not want to follow the instructions, in case it is a virus/trojan.
Apparently I am getting an attack from "port". - router problem? If I so much as look at "My computer" or try to open Avast or Malwarebytes, then the screen goes blue and the PC suts down/restarts.
This is the link, please do not click on it, because I think it is to blame
