    MSE good with Windows 7, rubbish with XP.
    don't know about Vista.

    Security Essentials Version: 2.0.657.0
    Antimalware Client Version: 3.0.8107.0

    When I tried to download the new version it comes up Internet Explorer has stopped files downloading. Click here to download the file. When I click download nothing happens. Do I have to uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials and then reinstall it?

    Methinks that you are clicking 'update', which will update the version that you have.

    No, new version will install over version one.

    Thanks for the replies folks. MSE scanned the disc and found a couple of trojans and removed/cleaned them. It also removed one which suddenly appeared, when I was looking at EBay of all things.
    I still have problems when I am searching via Google though. If I click the blue link, then I get directed to all kinds of rubbish, but if I copy and paste the address into my web browser, then it goes straight to the site which I want - weird!
