Tesco mobile- iphone contract.

Hi there, I was looking for some advice!
I really want to purchase an iphone 4 and tesco mobile's 12 month contract deal sounds really good. I was just wondering what tesco mobile are like? Customer service etc. Also if anyone is on tesco mobile with an iphone I would really appreciate if you could share your experiences with this company and if you would recommend them or if I should steer clear of them.

Thanks for reading.

Make sure you get sufficient data as their charges are extortionate if you go over.
  • I am currently on the Tesco iPhone 4 12 month contract. Phone is by far the best phone I have ever had and I have had loads of phones, touchscreen, qwerty, BB and normal. Tesco uses O2 network, you do not get call waiting or visual voicemail. I use my phone loads and have never exceeded my allowance text or data (£35 p/m). You also get your Tesco clubcard points.
Customer Service is free and really helpful.

I've just signed up for the Tesco 12 month iPhone deal on £35pm instore, it's a no brainer really as i was going to buy one for £499 form the Apple store and pop my o2 sim in it. Good job I looked at this site!!!

With my iPhone 3G on o2 simplicity I got everything included free, such pic mms (=4 texts), free voicemail and pic voicemail. These are a couple of minuses but nothing that puts me off as the iPhone 4 is just lovely!! However as I'll have both phones running until next wednesday, then I'll check reception as its seems different on the iPhone 4. I can't wait to get Facetime up and running that will be sweet as my brother gets his iPhone 4 for crimbo!!

oh the customer service are very very nice, I think they are Manchester based, which explains why!!!
  • I am already on a rolling monthly Tesco mobile contract for an iPhone 3 and have found their customer service excellent. Yesterday I decided to upgrade to the iphone 4 on Tesco Mobile for £20 a month. I called the customer service centre at around midday and was told the phone would arrive within 5 working days. Today the phone arrived via parcelforce, I called Tesco customer services to port my existing number over and at 14:30 today, its all complete and making calls. Throughly recommend Tesco mobile for value, service, coverage and the added bonus of clubcard points.
  • Hi I am porting my number over and It'll be next wednesday before it completes due to the christmas break, the service is very friendly best I've come across so far and i've had a phone for over 10 years (vodaphone, t-mobile, o2). Ah as I'm on o2 number probably thats why its taking longer
  • Needs two working days, so today and then next Wednesday....Irrespective which network you're going from.

    Absolutely do not do it!

The network quality is not O2's and is dreadful. I am in central London.
The phone is unusable, there is no coverage, calls drop, people sound distorted and have trouble hearing me. So under the 14 days cooling off period I am returning it but I hear from others that if you do this they stick you for huge data use bills. With the iPhone it calls up all the time unless the battery is flat so just in two weeks, where it's been mostly sat on the table unused, my data usage is over £200.

My experience of Tesco Mobile has been appalling.

First they created two accounts for me and sent me two iphones. I realised the mistake the minute the woman read out someone else's credit card number when I put in my order but nearly a month later the account is still being billed to me, and having returned the second phone unopened as instructed.

All Tescos customer services numbers are 0845 and premium rate from other mobiles and as the Tesco phone didn't work well enough to call them on I have also racked up a huge phone bill on Vodafone trying to sort it all out. A customer service lady called Helen told me I could not return the phone under the 14 day cooling off period because it was more than 14 days from my order. But it says in their own contract that the 14 days runs from receipt of the sim card, not the date of the order and I was still within the deadline.

If they try and stick me with £200 data roaming when you can't actually switch the iPhone off to stop it I will see them in court. They have been the most awful experience and totally ruined my Christmas.

I would only recommend Tesco Mobile to people I really dislike.
  • I'm thinking of getting the iPhone (not thought about Tesco as yet) but your post has worried me. How do you mean it doesn't switch off?! Why have you been charged £200?

  • I think what "anyusernameleft" is saying, is that he used the phone on Tesco's cellular network, rather than wi-fi, and then when he returned the phone under Tesco's 14 day returns policy, he got charged for the data he had used (at £4/mb).

Tesco are the only company I know that do this, if you return the phone, you will be charged for any data/calls/sms you have used, despite the fact you have paid for an inclusive allowance up-front.
  • Oh i see, thanks for clearing that up, i'm a bit of dummie when it comes to technology, it's good i've got this forum to scope before i delve into the world of iPhone.

So, Tesco wouldn't do the £4 p/MB charge on a monthly bill, just if the phone is returned and contract cancelled?
