BTL, vile lowlife business, nobody wants to be living under their roofs

    Overall more houses being homes and less being investments is a good thing.

    What planet are you on? If they could do that why are there so many people renting? :wall:

    I have several Muslim landlords that tell me they believe in living a good moral existence. Thier properties are in poor shape and they are Devils when it comes to late rent with not an ounce of sympathy shown to tenants who've hit bad times. At the same time thier God tells them they cannot enter heaven a rich man.

    Very confusing.

    Because having your own place is generally better than than living with friends/family/parents.

    Why should I suffer for your principles or move back in with family who live in another part of the country, and don't want me any more than I want them? Not everyone wants to buy, or own their whole life. Most people prefer to rent when they are young, so they can move when careers progress, or they can save, or they just don't want the hassle of maintaining a property.

    Withdraw every BTL property and where will they live? Withdrawing twenty BTL houses from a small town will make it that much harder and more expensive for those who want somewhere to rent. I can remember going for bedsits in London in the 80s, and there were twenty others in the queue to be interviewed.

    My only gripe is when whole streets go BTL and community and pride disappears. But that is as much to do with some FTBs expectations being too high. My FTB was a small terrace, in a road where young couples almost never buy now; they would prefer an estate house in the middle of nowhere.

    Empires build on sand. The small investors became the bigger investors. Accumalating more and more debt. A "business" built on capital appreciation and remortgaging, with little operating profit.

    I'm sure there are some who experience that, but if they don't like the returns they should try something else.

    I will add I am not 100% against the rental market and I am well aware some people want to rent for many reasons, but right now prices are approx 7% higher due to BTL landlords buying up the stock and causing competition for the remaining.

    Many renters would have bought if the BTL landlords hadn't bought up all the local stock.

    In short I think it has got out of control and it does need adressing, may be all rental properties should go back to the government, to which then rentals could be kept at prices less than mortgages and money raised would go back into the country rather then the pockets of a few greedy BTL landlords.
